Mike Macdonald set the record straight about the possibility of Seattle holding multiple joint practices this offseason.
The Seattle Seahawks had gone over three decades without holding a joint practice with another team during the summer offseason program and training camp.
That was, until two years ago when head coach Mike Macdonald took over.
Now, Macdonald is preparing to workout with another team for the third offseason in a row.
Amid several rumors of who the Seahawks might meet under the sun, Macdonald addressed the media this week for a status update.
"The only one we could possibly do is with Tennessee," Macdonald said during his media availability. "Good news for you guys. So we’ll see. I wouldn’t say it’s a done deal yet, but just trying to finalize some details, but we’re hopeful that will work out."
This would be a familiar partnership, as the Seahawks and Titans met last summer in a joint practice before Seattle ultimately beat them in a preseason game days later. Seattle also traveled to Green Bay for a joint practice with the Packers.
In the regular season, Seattle then edged out Tennessee 30-24 in Week 12 despite the Titans' No. 1 overall draft pick, quarterback Cam Ward, playing well. He threw for 256 yards and accounted for two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
Tennessee, however, is under new leadership with head coach Robert Saleh arriving for the 2026 season. Ward is also expected to continue progressing in Year 2 now that he has former Ohio State wide receiver and No. 4 overall pick Carnell Tate to throw to.
Of the three preseason games in 2026 for the defending Super Bowl champs, the Titans are the Seahawks' second, scheduled for Aug. 23 in Nashville.
Seattle's first dress rehearsal is against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 15 at Lumen Field. There have been rumors circulating that the Seahawks could join the Cowboys for a joint practice during Dallas' training camp, held every year down in Oxnard, Calif.
Macdonald's remarks, however, seem to strike that down. That's unfortunate for the HBO crew filming this year's "Hard Knocks" featuring Seahawks, who'd be happy to welcome cameos from Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott ... not to mention potential drama involving ex-Cowboys DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante Fowler Jr., who now play for the Seahawks.
Seattle's third and final preseason contest is against the Kansas City Chiefs, but longtime head coach Andy Reid does not delve into joint practices in the offseason.
The Seahawks, too, used to never take part in these offseason activities, but under Macdonald's leadership, you can'd discredit how they might've helped prepare the team with game-like environments before Week 1 and led to expedited preparation.
We'll see if another dual session gets done in 2026 while the Hard Knocks cameras are rolling.
