The Seahawks will face Garrett twice in 2026, and Barner knows Seattle has a plan to stop him.
The Seattle Seahawks are now coming to terms with the fact that they will be facing two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett twice a season after the Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world with the blockbuster trade.
With Garrett now in L.A. Sean McVay's team is comfortably the Super Bowl favorite, as the Rams have the star-studded offense and now defense to go all the way.
But don't discount the Seahawks though.
Just because the Rams have Garrett doesn't mean they are invincible, and the Seahawks will no doubt have a plan for Myles when they meet towards the backend of the season.
However, having a plan and actually executing it are two entirely different things and Garrett as we know, is perhaps the best at blowing up a plan.
But for tight end AJ Barner, who was a guest on NFL Insiders, he knows what sort of player Myles is and hinted at what the plan will be to at least slow him down.
“I grew up in Cleveland, so I’ve seen all the success that Myles has had and got a lot of respect for the player that he is,” Barner said. “When that game rolls around, I’m sure we’ll have a bunch of chip blocks for him and outside zone.”
So, AJ seems to be assured in the plan that Seattle has for Garrett, and time will tell if it is a good one.
But there are more problems the Seahawks have to deal with on L.A.'s defense than just Garrett, with Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Braden Fiske and Kam Curl all set to be thorns in Seattle's side.
And for Barner, it won't matter who Seattle faces, the opponent will be getting everything it can handle.
“For me as a competitor, it’s like whoever we’re playing, they’re going to get my best shot,” Barner added. “When you play the Seahawks, we got 11 guys on the field at a time that are going to play really physical and play together.”
The NFC landscape has drastically changed since the Rams traded for Garrett, and the Seahawks now know that their division rivals just powered up to a level that makes them a serious threat.
But Barner clearly isn't shrinking at the thought of facing Garrett, and I bet the Seahawks won't either.
