Cam Ward gets another chance to settle in as Tennessee faces Seattle, while young Seahawks like Jalen Milroe and Jadarian Price fight for bigger roles.
Cam Ward doesn’t need to win a preseason game, but he does need to look better. And the Seattle Seahawks defense hopes to prevent that.
The Tennessee Titans quarterback gets another chance to build confidence against the Seahawks after an uneven preseason opener in which he completed 5 of 12 passes for 57 yards. The numbers weren’t disastrous, but the offense never looked fully comfortable.
That’s what makes this matchup interesting.
Ward is the centerpiece of Tennessee’s future, and every preseason rep is about timing, command and learning how quickly NFL defenses close windows. Seattle should give him a tougher test with a deeper, more disciplined defense than what he faced in stretches last week.
The biggest thing to watch is simple: does Ward look more settled? Cleaner footwork. Faster decisions. Better rhythm.
That would be a win for Tennessee, regardless of the scoreboard.
Another name to watch is rookie receiver Carnell Tate. He was quiet in his debut and didn’t record a catch, but the talent is obvious. Tennessee needs to start finding out whether he can become a reliable vertical target and eventually a major piece of Ward’s development.
On the Seattle side, the intrigue is mostly about the young guys.
Jalen Milroe remains one of the most fascinating developmental quarterbacks in the league. His athleticism can change a game immediately, but the Seahawks want to see continued progress as a passer.
Preseason gives him the perfect environment to take risks, make mistakes and prove he can run an NFL offense with more consistency.
Then there’s rookie running back Jadarian Price.
Seattle’s backfield has changed, and Price has a real opportunity to earn meaningful snaps. If he gets carries against Tennessee, watch his vision and pass protection as closely as his explosiveness.
That’s usually what determines whether a rookie back sees the field early.
For Tennessee, the secondary also has something to prove after giving up too many easy completions and explosive plays in the opener. Seattle’s young receivers will test that group again.
So yes, it’s preseason, but there’s plenty on the line. Ward needs progress. Milroe needs polish. Price needs an opportunity.
And both teams need answers before the games start counting. That’s more than enough reason to watch.
