It wasn't a smooth performance, but Smith-Njigba is just happy to start the season off with a win.

The Seattle Seahawks' 13-10 win over the New England Patriots won't win any awards for aesthetics, but Mike Macdonald's side got what they came for -- a win.

With Sam Darnold going down injured just five plays into the game, Drew Lock was thrust into action, and as a result, the Seahawks initially struggled to find a rhythm on offense.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba had the team's only touchdown. After a quick catch and run, he weaved through the Patriots' defenders and found his way to the end zone.

The Seahawks defense was the star of the show, and with no Darnold, it knew it had to make plays, and a Josh Jobe interception late, as the Patriots were at Seattle's 16-yard line, ended the game.

It wasn't pretty, it wasn't fluid, smooth, or had a lot of highlight plays, but the Seahawks managed to outlast the Patriots.

And in speaking on the game, Smith-Njigba had perhaps the best summary of what transpired at Lumen Field.

"What a game, it's great to be here with a new season, new team, energy was great," Smith-Njigba said. "Shout out to the 12, what a incredible game. I think a testament to our team just having each other's back.

"Offense, special teams, defense, never wavering, understanding that it's a four-quarter game. And that's why I love this team so much, and I'm super proud of them."

And that's the thing. Seattle never gave up.

After scoring only three points as they entered the fourth quarter, the offense clicked into gear, scoring 10 points as Smith-Njigba led the way with eight catches for 122 yards.

After so much buildup, the game didn't really live up to it, unless you love defensive slugfests, but the Seahawks fans won't care. They got the win.

You never want to start the season out with a loss, and it did look like that could be coming for Seattle as Drake Maye was driving his team down into the red zone, but Jobe's interception sealed their fate and handed the Seahawks an ideal start to the new season.

Darnold's injury was a sour note, but if Smith-Njigba and Lock can play like that while he's out, I think the Seahawks might be just fine.
