The Seahawks have climbed the NFL mountain, and this offseason, it looks like they won't be resting on their laurels.
The Seattle Seahawks were always going to be a close watch this offseason after winning the Super Bowl last year.
With Mike Macdonald's team climbing to the summit of the NFL, that feeling can linger for months. And to an extent, it should.
So much sacrifice and hard work went into that Super Bowl triumph, so it would be human nature for them to indulge a little bit, right?
The Super Bowl hangover is real for some, but this Seattle team? I don't think so.
With Macdonald overseeing an offseason program that has seen nearly every single player on the roster attend OTAs, there is a feeling that the Seahawks are ready to defend the Super Bowl title they won last season.
But after winning the penultimate game, it can be tough to see exactly how in tune the team is, and yes, the attendance points to players being bought in; however, what about their physical shape?
Seattle Sports' Brock Huard, a former quarterback in the NFL, has revealed some inside knowledge on how the roster is looking at this stage of the offseason.
“From some folks in the know, this is the leanest, highest muscle mass and lowest body-fat team that they’ve seen around there in a long time,” Huard said. “And it speaks to nearly 100% participation, guys believing in the process and the proof of concept of development over there.”
So that is a great starting point for the Seahawks. Everyone is in top shape.
And given they are elite athletes, you would expect nothing less in truth. But with their bellies full after the Super Bowl win, standards can drop, even by a couple of percent, and in the NFL, that is all that is needed for teams to overtake you.
Well, if anything, the Seahawks have gone the other way, at least physically, and are nearly in regular-season shape already.
Now, does that translate to success in 2026? Hardly. But it certainly gives the roster the best chance of starting the season off right, because, don't forget, it's the New England Patriots up first.
Seattle is the NFL king right now, and yes, it might be early in the offseason, but Macdonald's team appears ready for the Super Bowl fight.
