Silicon Valley heavyweights Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook have officially declined interest in the NFL franchise, stalling rumors of a tech-driven takeover for the Paul Allen estate.
The Seattle Seahawks may still be one of the most intriguing potential ownership situations in the NFL, but two of the biggest names tied to the franchise can officially be crossed off the list.
Recent speculation linking tech giants Mark Zuckerberg and Apple CEO Tim Cook to a possible bid for the Seahawks has now been shut down. According to new reporting, both figures are not expected to pursue ownership, pushing back on earlier rumors that suggested they could be preparing offers for the team.
"Glad we could intercept the rumors on this one: Mark is not making any investment or bid for the Seattle Seahawks," a Meta spokesperson told Bloomberg.
The initial buzz generated plenty of attention, and for good reason. The idea of leaders from companies like Meta and Apple entering the NFL ownership landscape would have been a seismic shift, blending Silicon Valley influence with one of the league’s most respected franchises. But as it turns out, that scenario isn’t in the cards.
Instead, the latest developments reinforce that those early reports were premature. Neither Zuckerberg nor Cook is positioning to buy the Seahawks, and any talk of imminent bids involving them appears to have been overstated.
That doesn’t mean Seattle’s long-term ownership outlook is settled. The franchise remains under the control of the Paul Allen estate, and while there has been no formal announcement about a sale, the expectation around the league hasn’t changed.
There is another tech giant who has been linked to the reigning Super Bowl champions, and that is former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. He is no stranger to owning popular sports franchises, as he has been the owner of the Los Angele Clippers in the NBA since 2014.
Still, the broader point remains unchanged: whenever the Seahawks do enter the market, it will be one of the most significant opportunities in professional sports. Even without some of Silicon Valley’s biggest names in the mix, the franchise’s value, stability, and passionate fan base ensure it will command massive interest.
For now, though, the situation is quieter than it first appeared—and the search for Seattle’s eventual next owner remains wide open.
