The offense again stuttered in the loss to Denver, leaving Darnold with a laundry list of problems to solve.
The Seattle Seahawks must be thinking what on earth has gone wrong in the past couple of weeks, especially with their offense.
Sam Darnold, who didn't have a single turnover in the postseason last year, has seemingly forgotten how to protect the football, with seven interceptions in five games, and with his two against the Denver Broncos in a 17-14 loss, it is now back-to-back games with multiple turnovers.
But it isn't just Sam.
The run game, without Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet, leaves much to be desired and is inconsistent, and the Seahawks still haven't found a consistent passing option other than Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Plus, Darnold has been sacked 14 times in five games, so the offensive line isn't protecting its quarterback like it usually does.
And speaking of the game. Darnold gave a rather sobering take on the state of the offense.
"Yeah, no way to sugarcoat it, that one sucked," Darnold said. "Can't turn the ball over, that's obviously at the forefront of my mind. But there's just a lot we can do better. We're running the ball, we're dropping back and having some things work in the drop-back game. Some of the play action stuff was a little iffy, but we just got to be better all around.
"It starts with me. So, we just got to look at who we are as an offense, look at things that we do well, things that we don't do well, and go from there."
At 3-3, it isn't exactly the end of the world for Seattle, but the franchise is quickly running out of time to push for the division. ...
Especially with the San Francisco 49ers running wild to begin the season, and they face the Washington Commanders at home on Monday Night Football, the Seahawks could be a long way back.
The Seahawks, meanwhile face a powerhouse in the Chiefs in Week 7.
But that isn't where their focus is; it is on figuring out what went wrong with the offense that was tough to stop in last year's postseason, because right now something is off.
With a mini-bye to come before their next game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seahawks have to put their noses to the grindstone and find a way out of this.
And the first port of call is likely to land at Darnold's feet. Protect that damn football.
