Shaheed was used out of the backfield against the Chargers, and something similar might be coming Sunday.
It has been a rather slow start to the season for Seattle Seahawks receiver Rashid Shaheed, as the speedy weapon hasn't been let loose as often as he was last year.
But Shaheed has still gotten his catches (7 rec for 73 yards), but we haven't seen him find the endzone as a receiver.
However, as a running back? We saw that last week.
For whatever reason, offensive coordinator Brian Fleury decided to see what Shaheed could do out of the backfield against L.A. as he had two carries for 33 yards and a touchdown.
It is worth noting that Rashid had just one carry in the first three weeks, and then doubled that in one game.
And he wants more of it.
"I liked it a lot," Shaheed said. "Something that we've been trying to key in on for a few weeks now, and to get it ran and executed, it was really fun."
With a big emphasis being put on Shaheed as a receiver behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba in training camp, to now have him as a potential option out of the backfield gives the Seattle offense another wrinkle it can use.
And it might against the 4-0 San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
For Rashid, being used as a running back is something Fleury has envisioned for a while this year, despite his limited experience (just 29 attempts in five years).
"In this offense in particular, I feel like that's something he's envisioned for a while," Shaheed added. "I feel like he's going to continue to kind of exploit throughout the offense. And not too much familiarity out the backfield in the NFL. Mostly like fly sweeps and stuff like that. But I grew up playing running back, so that helped in that situation last week."
So, we could see more of No. 22 as a running back/tail back against the 49ers, and with his home-run speed, and on any play we could see Shaheed fly his way into the end zone.
He's been used fleetingly in that role, but given his success against the Chargers, we can make an easy argument as we ponder ... Hey, why not try and replicate that same cleverness against the hated 49ers here on Sunday?
