Smith, a former Seahawk who had success in the NFC West, is now looking at repeating that in New York.
Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is still hoping he's got something left to give in his NFL career.
Smith, who spent five seasons in Seattle, ending with a 28-24 record, has found the going really tough since leaving the NFC West.
Granted, he was with the Las Vegas Raiders, but a 2-13 record isn't great, and some thought that he could be done in the NFL.
But the New York Jets and Aaron Glenn thought otherwise, with Smith linking up with the AFC East franchise this offseason.
Glenn stated that Smith could lead New York to the promised land, which, for most, was a huge eyebrow-raising moment, but the Jets need that veteran presence.
Smith was that for the Seahawks as he had back-to-back winning seasons before moving on to the Raiders.
But the Jets area different proposition.
Having not made the playoffs since 2010, that is a long drought for the Jets, but it is one they hope Smith can help end.
And if he did, well, that would be something that Geno would like very much.
“Yeah, I mean, that would be like a story in a movie, right?” Smith said Seattle Sports. “It’s kind of like one of those superhero movies, but my life is based on reality. We’ve got to focus on getting better every single day.”
Given that so many have failed, and failed badly in New York, Geno included, coming to Glenn's franchise now, after the offseason they've had, there is a different vibe around the place.
Now, that doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but Geno will be looked at as the veteran presence to calm everything down when things get tense, and believe me, they will.
Even the Seahawks last season en route to the Super Bowl didn't have things all their own way, and Geno has been in the league long enough to know how difficult it will be to get the Jets back to the postseason.
Geno wants his "superhero" movie in New York.
Time will tell if he gets it.
