Seahawks Express 'Utmost Confidence' In Drew Lock Replacing Sam Darnold

It will be the Drew Lock show against the Cardinals, and for offensive lineman Abraham Lucas, his confidence hasn't wavered despite not having Darnold behind him.

The Seattle Seahawks will be facing the Arizona Cardinals this week without Sam Darnold, who has a quad injury.

Head coach Mike Macdonald also revealed to the media that Darnold suffered a cracked rib in the opening minutes of the loss to the Chicago Bears.

So, for this week at least, it will be Drew Lock taking over, who himself is dealing with an elbow injury.

Having stepped in for Darnold in Week 1 against the New England Patriots, Lock led Seattle to a 13-10 win and then, the following week, orchestrated a 31-7 win over the Cardinals.

So, he knows what he is doing in Brian Fleury's offense, but the Seahawks unit is a different one now compared to the one he took over months ago.

At 4-4, the Seahawks need to start stringing together wins, and for tackle Abraham Lucas, he has total confidence in Lock ahead of Sunday's game.

"Drew's always been a great quarterback," Lucas said. "I mean, regardless of who we're blocking for, utmost confidence in them. I know Sam will attack his rehab, and Drew will step in and be the best version of himself for us. So, I got all the confidence in him."

We often say that the backup quarterback is perhaps one of the most crucial spots on the roster, because for Lock to come in and keep this ship afloat while Darnold is rehabbing is key for Seattle's season.

A veteran now who has played seven years and has 29 starts in the league, Lock is more than capable of bus driving Seattle to a win against Arizona.

After all, if he could do it against the Patriots, surely he can do it again against the Cardinals, right?

This looms as a key stretch for the Seahawks because after the Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, Seattle has the bye and then faces the San Francisco 49ers.

If the Seahawks can get to 6-4 and then reset at the bye, I think most fans would take that, but with no Darnold, that thought is on shaky ground.

Still, this isn't the first time Lock will be tasked with stepping in, and with two very winnable games on the schedule before the bye, this is his chance to put the Seahawks in a great position before Darnold returns.
