The offense hasn't been good enough in the past two weeks for Seattle, and it has led to some honest conversations inside the building.
There's no denying the Seattle Seahawks' offense over the past two weeks hasn't been good. In fact, it's been the reason the team has lost.
The unit as a whole, in three of its last four games, has had at least three turnovers, with Sam Darnold throwing interceptions for fun (seven in five games), as the offense has struggled.
The run game has been up and down, struggling to get anything consistent and that could be because Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet have been out injured.
Oh, and Darnold has been sacked 14 times in five games, which also isn't a great sign for the offensive line as a whole, plus Brian Fleury's ability to help his quarterback out against teams that pressure a lot, like Denver.
And the loss to the Broncos in overtime, which saw Darnold's two interceptions come with 1:25 left in the fourth and then in overtime, was absolutely crippling to the offense.
Defensively, Seattle is doing its part, forcing punts on eight straight Denver possessions in the second half, but offensively? They aren't pulling their weight.
And for head coach Mike Macdonald, that has meant some tough conversations have taken place.
“I’m proud of the couple days of work that we put in,” Macdonald said via Seattle Sports. “I think we had some honest conversations, an honest process. I think we’re definitely more aligned as a team than we were a few days ago, and I’m excited about where we can go.”
One thing that might be getting lost in the wash regarding Seattle's offensive struggles is that Fleury has never been a play-caller.
A coach for most of his time in the NFL, Fleury hasn't been in this position before, so he is learning on the go, and maybe that is part of the reason Seattle's offensive performances have been a little clunky.
Either that or the Darnold interceptions of lack of a consistent run game.
Seattle clearly knew it had a lot of things to address offensively after the Denver loss, and going by Macdonald's words, it has done just that.
With the Kansas City Chiefs up next at Lumen Field, the Seahawks will be hoping for a vastly different performance from Darnold and Co.
