With key starters sidelined, first-time coordinator Brian Fleury earns praise for stabilizing Seattle’s offense through creative adjustments and steady leadership amidst a wave of early-season roster volatility.

When Brian Fleury took the Seattle Seahawks' offensive coordinator job, he was likely hoping for a smooth transition without many bumps in the road.

Well, that lasted five plays into Week 1 as he lost Sam Darnold for the game, and then the following week at Arizona.

And then we add to that, losing rookie running back and first-round pick Jadarian Price, who was placed on IR this week, that is two key players that Fleury has been forced to go without.

Granted, Darnold was out for two games, and now he's back, but Price has been in and out of the team in terms of snaps, and now he's definitely out for at least the next three weeks.

So Fleury, a first-time coordinator, has had to manage many moving parts in the opening month of the NFL season, and head coach Mike Macdonald has praised him for how he has handled the adversity.

"He's been incredibly steady," Macdonald said. "He's been very solution-oriented in terms of trying to solve the questions that arise from things like that, which I really appreciate. I've been impressed with how he's operated, very steadfast, very consistent.

"But this happens in the NFL, I mean, it happens every year in some capacity, really in all three phases. So, been impressed by how he's worked through it."

With Darnold now getting two games under his belt, the expectation is that he will be far better this week against the San Francisco 49ers, and Emanuel Wilson has emerged as a genuine starting option with Price out.

So when one door closes, another opens, and let's not forget how Fleury orchestrated the game with Drew Lock at quarterback in Weeks 1 and 2. So that's something.

Sometimes, when injuries to key players happen, the offense falls apart, but Fleury, with the help of Seattle's defense, helped keep this ship afloat.

And he's rightly getting praise for how he's handled what is no doubt a tough experience in his first month as a first-time coordinator.
