The Seahawks were a little light at running back against L.A., but the group powered through.
The Seattle Seahawks got back on the winner's list against the L.A. Chargers, securing a 30-23 victory at Lumen Field on Sunday in NFL Week 4.
A big question mark heading into the game was the rushing attack with Jadarian Price placed on IR due to a chest injury.
That meant coordinator Brian Fleury was in for a heavy dose of Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.
And the pair did well, as Wilson totaled 81 yards and a touchdown from 21 carries, while Holani managed 18 yards from seven carries, and even Rashid Shaheed got in on the act with two carries for 33 yards and a touchdown.
So, it was a running back by committee for Seattle on Sunday, totaling 138 yards on the ground.
But how did head coach Mike Macdonald see the run game against the Chargers?
"I thought the run game was effective," Macdonald said. "I think we ran at like 4.4 a carry for 100 and whatever yards. As Ham (Thomas Hammock, offensive assistant/running backs) told me, it doesn't matter. How many yards we run for? He goes, doesn't matter. Love it.
"I think there's spots where we could be more effective for sure, room for improvement like with the rest of the team, but given JD's [Jadarian Price] situation through the middle of the week and Emanuel stepping up and playing, I thought everybody handled it well."
With the Seahawks needing more bodies, they signed Robert Henry Jr. off of the Washington Commanders' practice squad on Tuesday. (This comes on the heels of the trashed plan to sign Joe Mixon, who may not have fared well with his physical testing.)
The rookie will come to Seattle to add some depth to the room as Zach Charbonnet and Price rehab their injuries.
And given how the run game fared against L.A., that should give confidence to the staff that Wilson and Holani, with a sprinkling of Rasheed, can get things rolling, and if they can manage 130 yards on the ground each week until reinforcements arrive, that would be ideal.
But for now, Seattle has to settle for effective, which is exactly what the rushing attack was on Sunday.
