For most, the Seahawks need a running back in the draft, but it appears those inside the building think differently.
The differing views on the Seattle Seahawks' running back room have been interesting to monitor over the past week.
With the NFL Draft nearly upon us, some think the franchise has to take a running back early due to the loss of Kenneth Walker to the Kansas City Chiefs. Others think it isn't a big priority.
Why? Because head coach Mike Macdonald stated earlier in the offseason that he is bullish on the running back room and thinks that some are sleeping on the position.
But with Zach Charbonnet dealing with an ACL injury, he's likely to miss the early part of the season. That leaves the newly signed Emanuel Wilson, George Holani, and Kenny McIntosh as the only backs available for Brian Fleury.
Is that group enough to be able to keep the offense afloat until Charbonnet gets healthy? Color me skeptical.
However, as it pertains to the draft, general manager John Schneider doesn't seem too bothered by the talk of the need to address the position.
"Signing [Emanuel] Wilson really helps us in this year's draft as well," Schneider said. "Kind of gives us some freedom. We've talked about George. Charbs is doing great."
So to me, the signing of Wilson helped ease the pressure on the franchise to "have" to take a running back early in the first round.
Yet, most mock drafts have Seattle taking Notre Dame's Jadarian Price or Arkansas' Mike Washington Jr. Of course, Schneider also said the Seahawks will look to trade back from No. 32 to acquire more draft capital.
As for Macdonald, he's maintained his stance on the players at his disposal.
"I'm on record, I believe in our guys, and there's a process too where, thankfully we don't have to play for another five or so months," Macdonald added. "We have a lot of training to do."
So from inside the building, there doesn't appear to be a pressing need to take a running back, and while the national media thinks otherwise, I know who I'll trust in this instance.
Schneider didn't seem too concerned with the makeup of the room, and Macdonald has now repeatedly expressed confidence in his players.
So, for all of those banking on the Seahawks taking a running back, maybe just hold off on that notion...for now.
