Milroe hasn't been seen in his NFL career to date, but there is a clear plan to get the young quarterback up to speed.
The Seattle Seahawks have no quarterback concerns with Sam Darnold, after leading the team to a Super Bowl in 2025.
But as is the case with most other teams, who you have as your backup is perhaps just as crucial as who is your starter.
If Darnold was to go down with injury, Mike Macdonald has two options.
Drew Lock, and the untried Jalen Milroe.
We know what Lock is as a quarterback in the NFL, and he can help keep the ship afloat if he's needed for a game or two. But what about Milroe?
Taken in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Jalen is an athletic monster, but as we know, physical gifts only get you so far in the NFL.
You have got to be able to play the position. Set protections, go through your reads, and everything else it entails. Milroe, to take the next step in his development, can't just rely on his physical gifts, no matter how extraordinary they are.
And for Macdonald, who was a guest on Seattle Sports' Brock & Salk, detailed the plan for Milroe as he enters Year 2.
"I think where our focus is and where his focus is just how good can we get, how much can you grow your game, just day by day, and he's doing that," Macdonald said. "I mean, this guy's got a great process. I think our coaches are doing a great job with him. Drew Lock's a stud, he's helping him out, Drew's kind of the connective tissue in the room.
"I think you've seen and you've felt the growth that Jalen's had over the course of the year and I'm really excited about it. At some point, is it the best for the team for us to have Jalen out there? Let's do it."
With Lock and Milroe backing up Darnold, training camp and then the preseason games are going to be a fascinating watch to see how the depth chart shakes out.
Right now, it feels like Lock is the clear leader, but there is still so much water to go under the bridge.
Milroe isn't on a clock here or anything, but as Macdonald said, the aim is for Jalen to get better each day. Whatever that looks like.
Yes, the physical traits are something that could easily be used in Brian Fleur's offense, as Milroe could be the classic "gadget guy," but in an ideal world, the Seahawks would use Jalen as a pure quarterback.
But it's clear he's got a long way to go, and the Seahawks are fine with how he's currently progressing.
