The Seattle Seahawks have secured the future of Derick Hall after the franchise signed him to a three-year, $42 million deal.
It continues the Seahawks' offseason path that has been more about retaining its players, rather than going out and spending big on free agents.
With Hall joining Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Seahawks have the two big re-signings, and they appear to be in good shape as we turn to training camp.
Hall is coming off a year in which he didn't match his 2024 stats, posting just 2.0 sacks, but his presence was felt on the field.
Derick managed 8.0 sacks from 17 games in 2024, but he started 14 games, and in 2025, he managed just three. It is clear Seattle saw value.
Hall's snap count was reduced from 674 in 2024 to 420 in 2025, as the Seahawks boasted a good rotation of defensive weapons.
And for Mike Macdonald, he's revealed why the franchise decided to re-sign Hall.
"We've always seen D-Hall as our type of guy," Macdonald said on Seattle Sports. "We love having him in the building, he's a great person, great teammate, he operates the way that we want, bringing it every day, great attitude, but also with some edge to him.
"He's got his own flavor of how he talks to teammates, gets guys going, he's just full of life. As a player, a great player that we feel has an even brighter future, this is just the beginning of where his career can go."
With Boye Mafe one player who was allowed to leave in free agency, it is expected that Hall can step up into a more advanced role for Macdonald and be a key cog in the defensive machine.
He's already proven he can be productive when given the chance, and if Seattle can get 8.0 sacks out of Hall in 2026, I think that will be a big win for the defense.
Of course, last season proved that Hall doesn't need the numbers to be productive, as Macdonald stated, you could "feel" Hall on the field.
Now with his future sorted, Hall can fully focus on football and being a crucial piece for Macdonald as the Seahawks look to give it their best shot at going back-to-back in 2026.
