The Seahawks had far too many self-inflicted wounds that ultimately doomed them against San Francisco.

The Seattle Seahawks fell 32-29 to the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field in a turnover-filled game.

In total, there were seven combined as the defenses won the day, and it was that which saw the Seahawks' offense unable to get out of its own way.

Sam Darnold threw two interceptions, and the Seahawks fumbled twice, for three turnovers in the first half, all of which accounted for all of San Francisco's 21 points.

This game had the classic playoff feel to it, with both teams struggling to move the ball, with each offense having multiple turnovers and no more than 269 yards of total offense.

So it was tough sledding, but the Seahawks will be kicking themselves after several turnovers set the 49ers up in good field position, and the 49ers made Seattle pay for it.

And for head coach Mike Macdonald, speaking after the game, he was left lamenting the lack of complementary football from his team.

"We're disappointed, thought the guys played hard, we stuck together, I think we're a tough team, I think we're connected, but in terms of playing complementary football, the way that we want to play here and to become the team that we want to become, we're not there yet," Macdonald said.

"...we need to grow quickly in terms of complementary football.

It was a very un-Seattle-like game on offense, as the unit turned the ball over four times, something they haven't done since Week 11 of last season.

Now, part of that was the 49ers' defense playing tough, physical football, because let's face it, both teams were hitting to hurt, and at the end of the day, San Francisco made more plays.

But the thing that will keep Macdonald up at night is this: the defense did enough to win this game; they just needed the offense not to gift the ball away.

Which they did...routinely.

And to make matters worse, when they did commit a turnover, it left the 49ers with a short field, and they capitalized.

At 3-2, it isn't panic stations for the Seahawks, but this is a performance that you can either chalk up to playing against a superb defense or one that has you having some questions about the offense.
