Seahawks Poised For Major Free Agency Decision After Super Bowl cover image

The Seahawks' attention is on the Super Bowl, but there's a rather important contract coming down the pipeline.

The Seattle Seahawks are one game away from NFL immortality, with the New England Patriots standing in their way of Super Bowl glory.

It has been a quick rise for the Seahawks under Mike Macdonald, and the franchise will be looking to cap it off in the best way possible by winning a Lombardi trophy.

But once the Super Bowl is over, the Seahawks are going to have to turn the page rather quickly, regardless of whether they win or lose, because free agency starts in a little over a month.

And that means the futures of some players become top priority.

One such player is running back Kenneth Walker, who has been a dominant force on the ground in the regular season and the playoffs.

We know that some teams are against paying running backs big money, due to the short shelf life of the position in the league, and we are about to see exactly how much value Seattle puts on the position.

For ESPN's Dan Graziano, how the franchise approaches Walker's impending free agency situation, will tell us a lot about them.

"This offseason will also tell us about Seattle's philosophy on paying running backs, too," Graziano writes. "Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet were second-round picks (in back-to-back years). Walker is eligible for unrestricted free agency, and Charbonnet tore his ACL during this postseason.

"Walker and the Seahawks have said all week that they're focused on Sunday's game and not his free agency, but Walker is an explosive back who's just 25 and hasn't been overworked during his time in Seattle."

Exactly what the market will be for Walker is unknown, but there are a host of teams that need an injection of a player like Kenneth to their run game.

The Kansas City Chiefs loom as a big player for a running back, and the chance to work with Patrick Mahomes might be too enticing for Walker.

Yes, Kenneth has stated that if it were up to him, he'd stay in Seattle, but money talks.

Spotrac.com has his market value at $8.4 million APY. Is that too rich for Seattle? I would hardly think so.

Plus, if Walker plays a starring role in the Super Bowl and Seattle wins, then you can likely add another couple of million to his wages per year.

Will Walker be a Seahawk in 2026? We won't have to wait too long to find out.
