Seattle's backfield receives a significant emotional boost as the bruising runner recovers from ACL surgery, providing veteran leadership while the offense awaits his official late-season return.
The Seattle Seahawks' run game has performed reasonably well over the past four games without injured Zach Charbonnet.
Emanuel Wilson, Jadarian Price, and George Holani have got the majority of the reps, but now Charbonnet is inching closer to a return.
In fact, he's back on the practice field.
But no, he isn't likely to return anytime soon as he continues to get treatment for his knee, in which he tore his ACL last season.
However, having Charbonnet simply out on the practice field has been great for the Seahawks, and we know that quarterback Sam Darnold has loved having him back out there with his vibes, energy, and leadership already on show.
But what about his coordinator Brian Fleury?
"It's exciting to see him out there," Fleury said. "I mean, he's still getting up to speed, and obviously we don't have like a whole lot of reps to spare to give him if we know he's not playing. So, it's just kind of been some basic stuff, but it's exciting to have him out there."
Charbonnet returning to practice at this time of the season is a big tick off his checklist as he aims to return to play later in the year.
Yes, it can be hard to get him proper reps, given that Seattle knows he isn't playing, but just being on the grass around his teammates and learning the system as best he can is a good pick-me-up for the Seahawks, even if they didn't need one.
While it isn't known when a potential return for Zach could happen, most are of the idea that it will be more of a wait, given he tore his ACL in the playoffs last season.
So expect a little while longer as he ramps up, but the Seahawks will be cautious, and given how early in the season it is, there is no reason to rush him back or put more on his plate because the run game has been serviceable through four weeks.
But there's no denying the positive impact that having Charbonnet back on the practice field has had on the Seahawks as a whole, so imagine the uplift the franchise will get when he finally returns to football action.
