Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks have one thing standing between them and a Super Bowl appearance, and that's the Los Angeles Rams.
With the NFC West rivals set to face off in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, the season series is split 1-1.
The Rams won the first meeting of the year in Week 11, 21-19, as Darnold threw four interceptions.
But Seattle got retribution in Week 16, beating the Rams 38-37 in overtime after being down 30-14 early in the fourth quarter.
So, Sunday takes on a whole new level of significance.
Because yes, the Seahawks and Rams are rivals, and there's bragging rights that come with winning, but this time, a Super Bowl is on the line.
The stakes have never been this high.
But for Darnold, who has been a close watch at practice this week as he guides himself through an oblique issue, is ready to roll.
"Obviously third time playing these guys, really good team, really good defense, really good scheme, good players," Darnold said. "We're really excited about this opportunity to play these guys. You just got to have a really good week of practice."
All eyes will be on Darnold on Sunday, not because he's the quarterback, but because of his health.
Dealing with an oblique issue, Darnold, prior to the divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers, didn't throw a single pass all week. Yes, Seattle won, but Darnold only had 17 pass attempts.
That likely won't get it done against L.A.
Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak said, "He looks healthy to me," when speaking to the media about Darnold, which will ease Seahawks fans' fears.
And for Darnold, this week has been about one thing.
"For me, I got to continue to attack all the things that I need to attack," Darnold added. "Getting ready to play these guys, but also just get my body right to be ready for Sunday."
With the Seahawks being one of the most consistent teams in football over the course of the year, they are now at home, against a rival, having played one game in three weeks.
They should be fresh and ready to roll.
The trilogy gets decided, with one serious carrot dangling in front of Seattle.
A trip to the Super Bowl.
