Lock as stepped in and won both games for the Seahawks, and Darnold isn't the least bit surprised.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has garnered most of the attention this week as he pushes to return in week 3 against the Washington Commanders.
But with Darnold edging closer to a return, some are forgetting about what backup Drew Lock has done for Seattle.
Coming in after five plays against the New England Patriots, Lock kept his head above water and played the role of bus driver perfectly in a 13-10 win.
Then, in Week 2, his first start of the year, Lock was again more than serviceable, going 19 of 26 for 235 yards and 3 TDs in the 31-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
With no turnovers and a completion percentage of 72.9, Lock has played superbly well in Darnold's absence.
And none of it is surprising to Sam.
"It's unbelievable," Darnold said of what Lock has done. "Again, none of us in this building are surprised at what happened, he's a baller, went out there, played really well and just very happy for him. It was cool to see his process throughout the week and how he attacked it, and to go out there and perform the way that he did. It was no surprise."
The big question leveled at Seattle now is how long to they pursue with Lock?
Darnold is getting closer to returning, but he only practiced this week and admitted he was a little sore in the aftermath.
With head coach Mike Macdonald stating the team wants to know by Friday if Darnold is a full-go, there is a real chance that, given the Seahawks must fly to Washington, Lock could get another start, just to allow Darnold an extra week of recovery to make sure he's 100 percent.
And if that is the case, and Lock starts, there is ample confidence in the building that he can lead the Seahawks to a 3-0 start and allow Darnold to come back with the team rolling.
Having a quality backup is perhaps one of the most underrated aspects of roster building, and in Lock, Seattle has a good one.
Hence why it's no surprise to Darnold or anyone else in the organization that Drew is playing as well as he is.
