With Myles Garrett already in Los Angeles, the potential return of future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald threatens to throw an even bigger wrench in Seattle’s quest for back-to-back titles.
The Seattle Seahawks already have plenty to worry about in the NFC West after the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett. But if Aaron Donald were to come out of retirement and join him on the defensive line, the challenge facing Seattle would reach an entirely different level.
Seattle is coming off of their second Super Bowl win in franchise history, and they will be looking to do everything in their power to defend the Vince Lombardi Trophy. But the Rams aren't going to be making it any easier.
Recent comments from NFL insider Adam Schefter have added fuel to the speculation surrounding Donald's future. On a recent episode of his podcast, Schefter made a statement that should scare Seahawks fans everywhere.
"I think, if and when they present a plan to him as to how he would be used, I think it's more likely than not that he'll be back."
The future Hall of Famer retired following the 2023 season, but reports indicate that the Rams' acquisition of Garrett has at least sparked discussion about whether Donald could be tempted into one more championship run.
Rams head coach Sean McVay has not completely shut down the possibility, acknowledging that he remains in contact with Donald while the former Defensive Player of the Year has admitted the move made him think about a potential return.
For Seahawks fans, the Garrett trade alone was already enough to command attention. The Rams landed one of the NFL's most dominant players on either side, and he will be looking to chase a ring after spending the first nine years of his career in Cleveland.
The good news for Seattle is that Donald remains retired, and there have not been any recent developments that would indicate he is making a return. But that does not mean that could not happen at any moment.
Still, the fact that the conversation even exists shows how dramatically the Rams altered the entire landscape of the NFL with just one move. The Seahawks already have to prepare for one superstar pass rusher twice a year. If Donald somehow returns, Seattle's path through the division would become significantly tougher overnight.
