Seahawks standout safety Nick Emmanwori is will miss some time in training camp, but will he be ready by Week 1 following right ankle surgery?
The Seattle Seahawks knew there was a bit of a problem with standout safety Nick Emmanwori's ankle.
Now the rest of the world knows, too ... and it might be more than a "bit of a problem.''
As the Seahawks are set to work through training camp, coach Mike Macdonald's Super Bowl-winning team will see Emmanwori start this period on PUP.
That you already knew.
But now comes work that he recently underwent surgery on his nagging ankle issue ... so the jump-off from PUP back to the 53-man roster isn't going to happen very quickly.
Writes ESPN, "Emmanwori is expected to miss some time in training camp but be ready by Week 1 following right ankle surgery, sources told ESPN.''
When Emmanwori was placed on the physically unable to perform list on Monday, it was suspected that it might be ankle-related ... but as he has practiced throughout the spring?
Well, that's where the "surprise'' comes in.
PUP is the present status for the trio of Emmanwori, Kenny McIntosh and Tyrone Broden.
We know that Broden and McIntosh dealt with issues last season, so it is clear the pair aren't fully ready to resume football activities.
The news isn't great, as all three would have been looking to hit the ground running as the Seahawks try to defend their Super Bowl title.
It especially isn't good for McIntosh, who has the chance to prove himself in a running back room that right now has a lot of question marks hanging over it.
With Jadarian Price, George Holani, and Emanuel Wilson, McIntosh had a chance to stake his claim for significant snaps at training camp, but now he'll start behind the eight ball at least for the early portion of camp.
The news of the trio landing on PUP could also be to ease them into the offseason after dealing with long injury issues, and it is worth noting that the players placed on PUP can return at any time during camp.
But there is a timeline.
When roster cuts happen and the squad is trimmed down to 53, if this trio is still on PUP, they will have to miss the first four games of the 2026 season.
That is a long way down the road, but and for Emmanwori, that doesn't seem to be a threat right now. But's it's something to monitor as Seattle is taking no chances with one of its best players right now.
