The Seahawks have thrown a dart at the quarterback board, with Mike Wright coming to the Super Bowl champ
Good NFL teams often draft a quarterback when they don't need one in preparation for a potential changing of the guard, and the Seattle Seahawks might have just done the same.
Or taken a flier on an athletic monster.
With Sam Darnold the starter, along with Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe on the roster, Mike Macdonald's team has chosen to add another quarterback to the roster ahead of the offseason workouts.
East Carolina's Mike Wright Jr. received a rookie camp invitation from the Super Bowl champs as he gets his shot to be on an NFL roster.
Wright is seen as a dart throw by Seattle, most likely. Either that or just another camp body that the team can use.
And while the odds are stacked against him, Wright is ready to get down to business with the Super Bowl champs.
"Let’s Go To Work Seattle Excited for the Opportunity! Thank You," Wright posted on X.
While the quarterback room you could argue, is set, adding Wright doesn't make too much sense. Unless the Seahawks want competition for Milroe.
But Wright isn't your normal quarterback. In fact, he played multiple positions for East Carolina last season.
As a quarterback, he went 3-for-7 for just 13 yards in 12 games. As a receiver, he posted six receptions for 39 yards, and as a running back, he had 20 carries for 72 yards and 2 TDs.
He was also a punter, and he played some defense as well, totaling one interception and a couple of tackles.
So, in short, Wright did everything.
But now that he's at Seattle's rookie minicamp, it will be interesting to see which position Macdonald and Co. want him to focus on.
The quarterback room, on face value, appears to be a tough assignment, so too receiver, but maybe running back could be a spot where Wright could get some meaningful snaps?
Boasting 4.39 speed and elite athleticism, it is easy to see why Seattle took a flier on Wright, but physical gifts only get you so far.
And at rookie minicamp, we're going to see if Wright can really play football.
