Seahawks seek a star running back post-Walker. Could Alvin Kamara, facing Saints uncertainty and a potential bargain price, be Seattle's answer?

The Seattle Seahawks seem likely to remain in the business of shopping for a new lead running back in the wake of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. ...

And yes, we think that even in the wake of Seattle having signed former Green Bay Packers veteran backup Emanuel Wilson.

All of that adds up to a logical piece of gossip, especially when we factor in the news that the New Orleans Saints just signed running back Travis Etienne away from the Jacksonville Jaguars with a handsome new $52 million deal ...

What is long-time superstar Alvin Kamara’s future with that franchise? And could Kamara - forever the subject of NFL trade rumors - be had by the Seahawks via trade?

We don't have to worry too much about Kamara’s talent fit with the Seahawks offense; he's coming off a mediocre year (last season, Kamara posted 131 carries for 471 rushing yards and one touchdown, with 33 receptions for 186 yards in 11 starts) but even as he approaches age 31 (in July), some of his old explosiveness remains.

There has been gossip about a bidder being able to take Kamara away from New Orleans for a price as low as  fifth-round pick. ... a bargain for Seattle if GM John Schneider can make the money work.

Kamara is heading into the final season of a two-year, $24.5 million contract and is scheduled to have a $10.5 million cap hit in 2026. There might be ways to massage some of that money.

This need is heightened, of course, by the fact that the Seahawks are also waiting on the knee injury rehab of Zach Charbonnet. Also worth noting: Kamara has in the past been so attached to New Orleans - he went to five straight Pro Bowls from his rookie year to 2021 - that he's mentioned retirement as an alternative to leaving the Saints.

But now? New Orleans coach Kellen Moore is notably non-comittal when it comes to retaining both Etienne (a New Orleans native) and Kamara (a New Orleans legend).

Said Moore: "We know Alvin means a lot to us. We're three days in this thing. We've signed Travis, and we'll go through that process."

Maybe the process could result in Kamara "meaning a lot'' to a defending Super Bowl champion in Seattle in need of a running back.
