With the Seahawks facing the Cowboys in their preseason opener, the unofficial depth chart has dropped, with a key change.
Preseason football is just around the corner for the Seattle Seahawks, and the team and fans finally get the chance to see what their roster can do.
Granted, there aren't likely to be many starters who take the field against the Dallas Cowboys on the weekend, but there will still be plenty to watch for as the Super Bowl champs get their first taste of football for the offseason.
Due to the preseason games starting, the Seahawks have released their unofficial depth chart ahead of their game against Dallas.
And per Field Gulls of SB Nation, the Seahawks have listed running back George Holani as the starter, with first-round pick Jadarian Price as the backup.
Cue eyebrows being raised.
In truth, this doesn't mean anything as it relates to the regular season, but it does perhaps hint at the offseason work put in by Holani.
Often seen getting first-team reps ahead of Price, Holani, after impressing in the playoffs en route to a Super Bowl win, now, it appears that in Brian Fleury's offense, he might be one of the leading players helping bring his vision to life.
Of course, given the makeup of the running back room, it is highly likely that Fleury utilizes a two-back system, similar to what Klint Kubiak did last season with Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet.
Only this time, it will be Holani and Price as Charbonnet recovers from his ACL injury.
It is a small feather in the cap of Holani to be the starter at this early point in the offseason, but as we said, in the grand scheme of things, unofficial depth charts don't really mean much.
They just give us a slight insight into how the roster is progressing at this point in time, and for the running back room, the two at the top of the depth chart are the ones we've seen saying all offseason will be.
How much, if any, both will play against Dallas isn't known, but I'd imagine Emanuel Wilson, Justin Jones, Velus Jones Jr., and Jacardia Wright will be the ones to see the field against the Cowboys.
Still, while it might be unofficial, having Holani as the starter is certainly noteworthy.
