Some sections of the Seattle Seahawks organization are likely still in party mode after the Super Bowl win, but the NFL waits for no one, and for head coach Mike Macdonald, party time is over.
Why? Because NFL free agency is coming down the pipeline, and that means he, along with his front office, has to figure out who they want to keep for 2026, and who they don't.
With a host of key starters set to be free agents in the coming weeks, the Seahawks, who do have ample cap space, will be able to keep who they want, barring being blown out of the water by a big free agency offer.
But what is seen as Seattle's biggest need?
One could say running back if Kenneth Walker does, in fact, walk out the door. Another is a No. 2 receiver behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba if Rashid Shaheed moves on.
However, for CBS Sports' Josh Edwards, cornerback takes the No. 1 spot.
"Seattle is in good shape overall,” Edwards wrote. “The Seahawks have several players set to hit free agency, but also have the cap space to retain whoever they prioritize.
“Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, edge rusher Boye Mafe, running back Kenneth Walker III, cornerback Josh Jobe, safety Coby Bryant and cornerback Riq Woolen are all due to become free agents in a matter of weeks. Cornerback is the position most likely to be in need of reinforcement.”
If Woolen isn't retained, then you can make the case for cornerback.
We have seen the Seahawks be named as a landing spot for Chicago Bears corner Nahshon Wright, but he would be a pricy addition, albeit a good one.
Spotrac.com has Woolen's market value at just $8.2 million APY, so he is a cheap option if Seattle wanted to run it back.
Other free agent options include Jamel Dean, Jaylen Watson, Alontae Taylor, and Montaric Brown, and all would be cost-effective.
Of course, there is the draft, but given Seattle's Super Bowl win, the franchise will be picking last in the first-round. Plus, there is always an element of the unknown with draft picks.
Maybe Macdonald wants a proven commodity to come into his defense?
Either way, there are a lot of things the Seahawks have to take care of in the coming weeks, and corner looms as one that could get the most attention.
