Fresh off a Super Bowl title and OPOY honors, Jaxon Smith-Njigba headlines an explosive tandem poised to shatter expectations and climb the league's elite receiving ranks.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba has very quickly developed into one of the NFL's premier wide receivers, and after playing a starring role in the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl-winning season, expectations remain sky-high entering 2026.
That made one recent ranking particularly interesting, as Smith-Njigba and teammate Rashid Shaheed were placed at No. 8 in CBS Sports' rankings of the league's top wide receiver duos. While cracking the top 10 is certainly respectable, there's a strong argument that Seattle's tandem deserves to be ranked even higher.
"This Seahawks pairing would be higher on the list if we had confidence in which of Shaheed or Cooper Kupp would actually be the No. 2 wide receiver," Jared Dubin writes. "As it stands, it's more of a target vacuum in JSN, with a couple of guys competing for second-string targets."
Understandably, the biggest reason is JSN himself.
Coming off a sensational 2025 campaign, the former first-round pick established himself as Seattle's unquestioned No. 1 target. He racked up 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns, and was awarded with the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year award as a result.
Shaheed complements JSN's skill set extremely well. One of the league's fastest receivers, he gives Seattle a legitimate deep threat capable of stretching defenses every time he steps on the field. That speed creates additional space for Smith-Njigba to work underneath, making life even more difficult for opposing secondaries.
Smith-Njigba provides the consistency and polish of an elite No. 1 receiver, while Shaheed brings the explosive, big-play ability that can flip a game in an instant.
Still, it's fair to question whether No. 8 is too low.
If Shaheed builds on what he showed during his first season with the Seahawks, the ceiling becomes even higher. Another year alongside Smith-Njigba and quarterback Sam Darnold should only strengthen the chemistry within Seattle's passing attack.
And with Seattle's rushing attack in the spot that it is right now, the reigning Super Bowl champions could be looking to pass the ball even more. As a result, the team's wideouts could finish the season with eye-popping numbers.
If Smith-Njigba continues his ascent and Shaheed delivers the same explosive element he brought a year ago, Seattle's wide receiver duo has every opportunity to outperform its preseason ranking and establish itself among the NFL's very best.
