The Seahawks have agreed to deals with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and now Derick Hall, so when will Witherspoon get his?
The Seattle Seahawks have had a rather uneventful offseason as Mike Macdonald looks to get his team back in shape for another Super Bowl run.
There have been some players who walked in free agency, but Seattle's plan has been to keep the players they want and give them new contracts.
First was All-Pro receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who signed a four-year, $168.8 million deal, averaging $42 million per year, which makes him the highest paid receiver in football.
The next one fans and media thought would happen was corner Devon Witherspoon.
In the same draft class as JSN, Witherspoon had his fifth-year option picked up, which gives the Seahawks contractual control for another two seasons, but of course, they can extend him whenever they want.
But Witherspoon wasn't the next Seahawk to get a new deal; that was edge Derick Hall, who signed a three-year, $42 million deal.
Witherspoon posted on Instagram 'Yessir Hall' in response to Derick's new deal, but now all eyes turn to when Devon will get his seat at the negotiating table.
Granted, the Seahawks, if we are being brutally honest, don't have to do anything with Devon; instead, let him play out the next two seasons and then look at what a deal could look like.
Do I think they'll do that? I don't.
General manager John Schneider likes to take care of his players, so I'd imagine a deal will be forthcoming soon. It's just a matter of when.
Greg Bell, a Seahawks insider for Tacoma News Tribune posted on X:
"Witherspoon will be next, likely as training camp begins late July. In the meantime the Pro Bowl CB isn’t doing scrimmaging in OTAs. Eliminating injury risk."
So, we have a loose timeline for when we can expect some sort of movement on a Witherspoon contract, and it is clear that the corner isn't about to put his future at risk either.
Yes, he's at OTAs, but isn't doing much work in order to make sure he's healthy to get the long-term deal he wants.
And now we know the rough timeline on when Seattle's next big star will get their shot at the negotiating table.
