Price is a first-round pick, but has he gone to the right place that will utilize his talents as a running back?
It might sound a little odd to some, but as a rookie, where you are drafted to matters, and it matters a whole lot, as Seattle Seahawks running back Jadarian Price is about to find out.
If Patrick Mahomes were drafted to the New York Jets instead of the Kansas City Chiefs, would he have had the career he's had? Likely not.
So, the environment, the coaching staff, everything plays a role in how a rookie can produce early in their career.
For Price, he comes to the Seahawks with the starting job definitely in his line of sight, as Kenneth Walker is now with the Chiefs, and Zach Charbonnet is rehabbing his ACL injury.
So, on face value, you could make the case that Price is in a good spot to be productive from Day 1.
But what about Brian Fleury's scheme? Does Price fit into that?
ESPN's Matt Bowen believes Price is in the right spot with the Seahawks and could be really productive.
"Seattle's system under new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury should put Price in a position to produce as a rookie," Bowen wrote. "Fleury worked under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco, meaning the wide zone run game will be a foundational scheme. Price should fit well with that, as he has the vision and lower-body control to stretch the edges or puncture the interior gaps.
"The main gripe with Price is that he lacked receiving totals at Notre Dame, recording 15 catches over three college seasons. However, he should get targets on screens and swings as a rookie."
So there are plenty of reasons to suggest that Price could potentially be in the best spot for his development.
With Mike Macdonald's culture, coupled with the scheme and the fact he's set to get starting reps, everything feels laid out nicely for Price to hit the ground running in Year 1.
Of course, success in the NFL isn't linear, so there will be some growing pains, but with Macdonald and Fleury overseeing it, Price could end up as the starter all year, even when Charbonnet is healthy.
Yes, there's a lot of water to go under the bridge, but where you get drafted matters for rookies, even first-round picks, and Price, it appears, might have landed in the ideal spot to begin his NFL career.
