Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. lands on the PUP list after aggravating his back during mobility drills, complicating his push for a contract extension before the regular season.

Steelers Star Suffers Back Injury 1st Day of Training Camp: ReportMore Videos

Add the Pittsburgh Steelers to the list of teams with players suffering injuries during the first days of training camp.

The San Francisco 49ers had several players miss practice on Monday amid injuries. The Carolina Panthers lost Nic Scourton for the season after the edge tore his ACL on the first day of practice, prompting an investigation into the matter by the NFL Players Association.

On Tuesday, the Steelers added cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the active/physically unable to perform list.

Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN, Porter aggravated his back during a mobility workout earlier in the day.

"CB Joey Porter Jr.’s placement on PUP comes after he aggravated his back during the team’s mobility workout this morning, per source," Pryor posted on X.

It doesn't appear like Porter's injury will fall under the same level of scrutiny as Scourton, as league teams are allowed to have their players on the field to run and do conditioning drills on Day 1.

The injury comes at a bad time for Porter, as the cornerback was hopeful to earn a new contract extension before the start of the regular season.

However, earlier this spring, Porter left open the possibility he would not practice in Latrobe this summer with a new deal.

"That's the vision," Porter said, via the Steelers. "I want to be out there. Everybody knows I want to be out there.

"I'm just gonna do everything I can and take it day by day."

With Porter on the PUP list, he appears to be day to day with the injury.

In addition to Porter, cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Donte Kent will start training camp on the PUP list.

Cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Donte Kent have been placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start training camp.

Steelers general manager Omar Khan revealed Ramsey suffered a knee injury during mandatory minicamp this spring.

"We're going to be smart about it," Khan said, via the Steelers. "He's a pro. You guys know how hard he works. If I had to guess, I would say it's probably going to be a couple of weeks."

It remains to be seen how long the Steelers think Porter will be out for this summer.
