Which Wide Receiver Can the Steelers Target on the Trade Market? cover image

The Pittsburgh Steelers now have to go back to the drawing board.

As the 2025 NFL season has gone on rumors were swirling that Pittsburgh was looking to make a big splash in the wide receiver market. And given how in flux the Miami Dolphins have been, the potential pairing of Aaron Rodgers and Tyreek Hill seemed fascinating.

You can throw that out the window now.

In case you missed it, Hill suffered as gruesome an injury that you can see on Monday Night Football. He had dislocated his knee, along with several ligament tears including his ACL, so who’s to know if he ever returns to the field? That’s a whole different discussion.

Pittsburgh, while it has a quality wide receiver duo in DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin, it’s hard to imagine that being a team that can make a deep playoff run.

On top of that, Austin was seen going to the hospital after Sunday’s game in Dublin to get his shoulder checked out. All things considered, Austin did say he was fine, but there’s no timetable on if he returns after the Steelers’ Week 5 bye or not.

So who else is out there on the trade market?

Pittsburgh is going to have some competitors as now the New York Giants are without Malik Nabers for the season, and the Cleveland Browns may be interested in adding to their room.

An interesting option is Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders, who had already asked for a trade prior to the season starting.

Meyers is an interesting case because he’s consistently been a serviceable receiver, but just posted his first 1,000 yard season at the age of 28. At this stage, he does seem like he’s going to break that mark again if he manages to stay healthy, however, he wants a new contract.

This is the final year of his three-year, #33 million contract, and will likely want a raise after posting career high numbers. It’s hard to imagine the Steelers doing so, especially since they  just gave Metcalf $30 million per year.

Another option would be Metcalf’s former teammate Tyler Lockett, who Metcalf continues to hold in high regard.

After spending a decade in Seattle, Lockett is currently with the Tennessee Titans. However, given the struggles in Nashville, his numbers are significantly down.

Lockett’s value isn’t very high, considering he’s an underperforming 33 year old, but he can be a helpful resource for a smaller receiver like Austin.

One other option is Dyami Brown of the Jacksonville Jaguars. There are no reports that Brown is being shopped, but he is on a one year deal worth $10 million.

Jacksonville already has a clear top-two receiver core in Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter, along with tight end Brenton Strange. But the Jaguars have been very impressed with wide receiver speedster Parker Washington who can easily step into Brown’s role.

Brown had missed Week 4's game with a lingering injury.

For the Steelers, Brown would add another big playmaker who can go long when needed, or if Rodgers needs someone open in the slot.

Either way, with Hill gone off the board, the options are limited, but the Steelers still have a myriad of options on their hands.
