As Brian Daboll joins a veteran coaching staff, all eyes turn to Cam Ward. Can the renowned play-caller mold Tennessee’s young roster and ignite his latest quarterback project?
The Tennessee Titans have a sizable break between now and training camp.
Mandatory minicamp was the Titans' last major offseason event, and it ended on June 17.
Training camp starts early for the rookies, who have to be there on July 23. Then, the rest of the players report to camp on July 28. The Titans are facing the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Chicago Bears in the preseason.
Tennessee is having a joint practice with all three of those teams.
The Titans added free agents, rookies and undrafted free agents to the roster this offseason.
In free agency, the most significant additions were Wan'Dale Robinson, John Franklin-Myers, Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott.
Then, Carnell Tate, Keldric Faulk, Anthony Hill Jr., Fernando Carmona, Nicholas Singleton, Pat Coogan, Jackie Marshall and Jaren Kanak were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Hank Beatty, Tyren Montgomery, Rasheed Miller, Aamil Wagner, Latrell McCutcheon Sr., Jalen McMurray, Jeadyn Lukus, Sean Brown, Mani Powell, Bishop Fitzgerald and Shad Banks Jr. joined the team as UDFAs.
As it stands, the Titans have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL. The Titans are hoping that the experienced coaching staff that Robert Saleh has brought in, which features multiple former head coaches, will be enough to get the team over the hump.
Gus Bradley joins as the defensive coordinator after being the HC of the Jacksonville Jaguars (2013-16), and Brian Daboll is on the staff as offensive coordinator after his stint with the New York Giants (2022-25) as HC.
Daboll's calling card is getting the most out of young quarterbacks, much like he did with Josh Allen and Daniel Jones. He now has another chance with Cam Ward at the Titans.
That was the question that Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer had. Can Daboll repeat that success with Ward?
"The Titans have one of the NFL’s youngest rosters heading into camp, so it’ll be interesting to see how an exceptionally experienced staff—the head coach and all three coordinators have extensive previous experience in their roles—manages that," Breer said. "And the offense is intriguing, with rookie Carnell Tate arriving, Wan’Dale Robinson coming with OC Brian Daboll from New York, Elic Ayomanor coming off a big spring, and Cam Ward back for his second year. Daboll has been down this road before, maximizing the athletic potential of young quarterbacks in New York (Daniel Jones) and Buffalo (Josh Allen). We’ll see if he can do it again."
The Titans have the tools in place for Ward to succeed.
They gave him two more receivers to work with in Robinson and Tate. Then they added an assistant coach who has had success with young quarterbacks like him before.
The Titans will be trying to put all of this together in hopes of turning it into a competent football team.
