Reggie Bush comparison sparks concern. Could Jeremiyah Love's dynamic, yet concerning, skillset mirror Bush's NFL struggles for the Titans?
The Tennessee Titans' draft strategy has been made public by General Manager Mike Borgonzi.
Borgonzi revealed at the NFL Owners Meetings that the Titans are going with the best player available throughout the 2026 NFL Draft. This makes it sound like Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love could be heading to the Music City.
Love is a dynamic prospect that can affect the game on the ground and in the air. He showcased that talent multiple times at Notre Dame. Last season, he lined up in the slot against Miami.
He's even been compared to former Titans running back DeMarco Murray, who made plenty of plays during his time in Tennessee, catching passes out of the backfield.
However, there was another player comparison that should have Titans fans feeling worried. ESPN's Matt Miller said that Love was similar to 2005 Heisman winner Reggie Bush.
"Love is an elite modern running back with true three-down skills," Miller said. "He has home run speed, with multiple 90-plus-yard runs in his college career. He's also a skilled receiver, hauling in 64 catches and six touchdown receptions in his three seasons. But Love isn't just a speed back. He can deliver violent hits at the point of attack and has the contact balance to bounce off tacklers and stay upright. With 4.36 speed and sweet open-field moves, Love is the closest thing to Reggie Bush as a prospect since he entered the NFL in 2006."
Although Bush was an absolutely electric player in college, his skills didn't translate well to the NFL. He bounced around the NFL, starting with the New Orleans Saints in 2006.
Bush was never really able to win starting minutes with the Saints. The most games he started for the Saints was 10 in 2007. He never finished with more than 600 rushing yards with the Saints.
He then went to the Miami Dolphins and had a more consistent role. He ended with over 1,000 rushing yards in 2011, and then 986 in 2012.
After two seasons in New Orleans, he landed with the Detroit Lions. He finished with 1,006 rushing yards in his first season, but then his production took a hit and he had 297 yards on the ground the following year.
The Heisman winner spent the last two seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills. He ended with under 100 rushing yards in both of his final seasons.
If this is the kind of player that Love ends up being, then the Titans should steer clear. The Titans do have other needs that can be addressed in the draft.
Edge rusher is a high priority, with another starting needing to be paired up with Jermaine Johnson. Femi Oladejo and Jacob Martin are projected to start, but they aren't the ideal candidates.
Sonny Styles was labeled a wild card by ESPN's Turron Davenport for the No. 4 pick by the Titans. The Titans could go with him instead of Love if they fear that he is not going to live up to the hype.
The good thing for the Titans is that there are plenty of other needs that they can fill if running back isn't where they want to go in just a few weeks.
Tennessee just needs to make sure to do its due diligence on Love before committing to him at No. 4. If he has an NFL career like Bush did, this franchise is going to be in trouble.
