As Tennessee ties a dismal NFL record, Robert Saleh defends struggling quarterback Cam Ward, insisting team-wide failures overshadowed Tony Pollard’s breakout performance in a crushing loss.

The Tennessee Titans are now 1-6 after losing 27-24 to the Cleveland Browns at Nissan Stadium on Sunday.

The loss means that the Titans have now tied the NFL record for most games without a consecutive win at 65. The Browns previously held the record from 2014-18.

That was bad enough, but Cam Ward's play came up again. Ward went 20-of-31 on pass attempts, finished with 181 passing yards, and threw one interception.

The Titans' quarterback has thrown an interception in each of the last five games. Ward has only thrown touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

His stats on the year are now 1,179 passing yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

Ward has been the topic of discussion plenty this year. He has had a very up and down season so far.

Just when it looks like he might be starting to figure things out, he has a game where he looks lost and confused.

Head coach Robert Saleh was asked at Sunday's press conference if the Titans had a quarterback problem.

He believed the team's problems didn't rest solely on Ward; everyone played a part.

"I don't think it's a quarterback problem," Saleh said. "You just hit the nail on the head. It's all the way across the board. He missed some throws. I'm not going to sugarcoat that. He missed some throws that he's got to make. He missed the throw on Belly there at the end, but he made up for it with an unbelievable throw to Carnell while getting hit and still got us in the end zone to tie the game up. But he made some good throws, and he made some plays. He missed some plays that we all expect him to make, but overall, there's enough to go around for everybody."

What's tough about the loss is that the Titans finally got a big game from Tony Pollard.

Pollard carried the Titans' rushing attack. He had 129 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 26 receiving yards.

We've been waiting for a game like this from Pollard this year. He finally had one, but it didn't matter, as the Titans lost to the Browns.

At the end of the day, you can't place all the blame on Ward. The team as a whole made plenty of mistakes too.

The defense couldn't stop the Browns in the fourth quarter after shutting them out in the third. Then, there was the fumble by Carnell Tate that gave the Browns an extra possession.

The Browns entered the game with one of the NFL's worst rushing attacks. Cleveland's rushing offense ranked ninth in the NFL coming into Sunday, averaging 94 yards per game.

Quinshon Judkins had no problems running all over the Titans. He led the Browns with 96 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The team also had success on the ground, finishing with 183 rushing yards.

It's easy to blame the quarterback when things are bad on a 1-6 team. Ward has been very inconsistent.

Still, there's more issues than just quarterback play on the Titans. They wouldn't be 1-6 if it was just all Ward's fault.

At the end of the day, the Titans need to play a complete game as a team. If not, we're going to have more performances like the one we just saw.
