As the Titans overhaul a struggling secondary, a key free-agent acquisition remains sidelined. Head coach Robert Saleh clarifies the injury status of projected starting cornerback Cor'Dale Flott.
The Tennessee Titans had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season.
For starters, the defensive line couldn't get consistent pressure on quarterbacks outside of Jeffery Simmons. The Titans ranked 14th in the NFL with 42 sacks in 2025.
Tennessee also allowed the seventh-most passing yards per game at 248.3. The rush defense was decent, as the team ranked 18th in rushing yards allowed per game (114.59).
The Titans did struggle to keep teams out of the end zone, though, allowing the fifth-most points per game (28.1).
To remedy that, General Manager Mike Borgonzi went to work this offseason.
He brought in key veterans like John Franklin-Myers, Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott in free agency. He also drafted Keldric Faulk, Anthony Hill Jr., and Jackie Marshall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Taylor and Flott are expected to start on the outside, but one of them has been noticeably absent from team activities so far. Flott hasn't been at OTAs recently, and head coach Robert Saleh explained why that was at a recent press conference.
Saleh shared that Flott has been dealing with an injury for the last couple of weeks, but is expected to be ready for minicamp, which will take place from June 16-17.
"Marcus [Harris] is doing a fantastic job at nickel, you know, and [Cor'Dale] Flott was doing a really nice job. He's dealing with an injury. So, he's been out a couple of weeks, but he'll be, I think, good for minicamp. But overall, I think the secondary is in really good shape."
Luckily, it sounds like the injury isn't a major one whatsoever, which is great news considering how inconsistent the secondary was last season.
L'Jarius Sneed was supposed to be a veteran leader in the secondary. However, he played in seven games due to injury before being released earlier this offseason.
The other starters at the beginning of last season were Roger McCreary and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. It wasn't too long before both of them were traded halfway through the year.
McCreary was sent to the Los Angeles Rams, and Brownlee was traded to the New York Jets, who the Titans will play in their season opener.
An ever-changing cast of characters started at corner last season. Darrell Baker, Jalyn Armour-Davis, Kevin Winston, Marcus Harris and Micah Robinson started at corner for the Titans at one point or another in 2025.
Having consistency at corner is going to be absolutely crucial for the Titans this season.
Thankfully, Flott should be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around.
