Basketball dreams turned football reality. Discover Tyren Montgomery's incredible journey from practice squad to Senior Bowl standout, now vying for a Titans roster spot.
The Tennessee Titans are compiling their list of undrafted free agents now that the 2026 NFL Draft is over.
The Titans drafted Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate, Auburn edge rusher Keldric Faulk, Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., Arkansas guard Fernando Carmona, Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton, Baylor defensive tackle Jackie Marshall, Indiana center Pat Coogan and Oklahoma tight end Jaren Kanak.
Tennessee's Jalen McMurry, along with Notre Dame offensive tackle Aamil Wagner and USC safety Bishop Fitzgerald are just some of the names fans might recognize that the team has already signed.
Another undrafted free agent signing that fans may want to look into is not only an intriguing player but also an amazing story.
Tyren Montgomery was one of the many undrafted free agents who signed with the Titans. His story is like something out of a movie.
For most players, dreams of playing in the NFL start at a young age. That wasn't the case for Montgomery.
He grew up in Woodlands, Texas, and actually played basketball before he even considered football.
He had a clear plan. Montgomery was going to take his talents to LSU and walk on to the basketball team.
However, life took a turn.
His mother fell sick during his first semester of college, and then Covid-19 shut everything down.
Montgomery eventually went back home, with his plans to play basketball out of the question.
Then came the moment that changed his life forever.
Montgomery was simply tossing the football around the backyard with his brother Kam, who played football at North Greenville University. Kam joked that Tyren might as well be playing football.
It was a joke at first, but then Tyren decided to give football a shot.
He first went to Nicholls State in 2022, which currently plays in the Southland Conference at the FCS level. He was a member of the practice squad and eventually used his redshirt year.
Then, he got more playing time in 2023, finishing with 171 receiving yards.
After not earning consistent playing time, he transferred again to John Carroll University. He came out of nowhere and ended with 1,071 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in 2024, and 1,528 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in 2025.
His story didn't end there.
Montgomery had a great showing at the Senior Bowl and even earned the respect of Jon Gruden, who called the receiver a sleeper in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Now, he's with the Titans as an undrafted free agent signing.
At the moment, Montgomery is listed as a reserve receiver on the Titans' depth chart. We know one thing about this franchise, and it's that the Titans love an undrafted free agent receiver.
Last season, it was Xavier Restrepo, with others like Mason Kinsey making the team in the past.
Montgomery is the newest UDFA receiver to make the roster and is a player that fans should root for this upcoming season.
Here's hoping that Montgomery's underdog story continues in the Music City!
