Mired in an 0-4 start, Tennessee eyes a high-stakes rivalry clash to ignite their season, fueled by historic bad blood and the desperate need for momentum.

The Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans don't like each other, that goes without saying.

Anytime the Titans can get a win over the Texans, it always brightens Amy Adams-Strunk's day. The hatred her family has for the city of Houston and the Texans runs deep.

Bud Adams had his issues with the city for years. That's why he decided to move the Houston Oilers to Tennessee.

Players on the team like Cam Ward are just now experiencing the rivalry firsthand. Ward has seen how close the games can be. In his rookie year, the second meeting with the Texans was decided by a game-winning field goal, even though the Titans were out of the playoff race at that point.

It was surprising that the Titans weren't going to wear their Nike Rivalries uniforms against the Jacksonville Jaguars instead of the Texans.

That won't matter on Sunday. There's going to be plenty of bad blood on both sides.

Jeffery Simmons is very familiar with the Texans. He's been with the Titans for eight years now and has played them 16 times in the regular season.

The rivalry will be on display on Sunday, but the Titans know that a win over the Texans could fuel them for the rest of the year.

The Titans are 0-4 and need a jump-start, with some massive games coming up. They take on the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns next, after Sunday's significant rivalry game with the Texans.

They then kick off the month of November with the Cincinnati Bengals and Jaguars.

Simmons knows how important momentum is in the NFL and how it could all start with a win over the Texans.

"Momentum is everything." Simmons said. "Like I said, winning takes care of everything. It takes one. When you build that confidence by winning, well, that's how you build confidence. Especially with a young football team. You build that by winning. Just by being on these types of teams in the last couple years, when you win it takes care of so much. From the energy in the building. From the way guys attack that new week. Should take the week the same, but winning takes care of so much. I think it'll be a big spark for us."

Simmons and the Titans are just trying to go 1-0 every week at this point. A win over the Texans could start a streak for the Titans.

It may seem bleak right now.

The Titans are last in the AFC South at 0-4, with only tougher games ahead. The Jaguars lead the division at 3-1.

A lot can change in the NFL in a short amount of time. A winning streak could propel this Titans team to new heights.

Sunday's rivalry game has more than just personal pride on the line for those involved. It's a chance to start trending in the right direction. The Titans have had moral victories left and right this year.

A win would be even better.
