Tennessee bolsters its defensive depth by adding veteran safety Terrell Burgess. The former Saint joins a revamped secondary, providing experienced coverage behind starters Amani Hooker and Kevin Winston.

The Tennessee Titans made changes to their 53-man roster shortly after we got our first look on Sunday afternoon.

For starters, Xavier Restrepo was initially on the roster but was waived on Monday. Luckily, if he clears waivers, he can still be added to the practice squad.

Hendon Hooker was waived on Sunday but was announced to have made the practice squad along with 15 other players.

With the subtractions the Titans made to the roster, they needed a couple of additions, too. One of those additions was safety Terrell Burgess.

The Titans signed him to the roster, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Burgess played college football at Utah from 2016-19. He was then drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

He never really got playing time with the Rams because John Johnson and Jordan Fuller were the safeties during his rookie year in 2020.

Taylor Rapp was one of the starting safeties in 2021, and then Nick Scott started at safety in 2022. Burgess was traded to the New York Giants halfway through the 2022 season.

He had an undisclosed injury in 2023, and the Giants released him after he failed a physical. The Washington Commanders then picked him up that season after he passed his physical with them.

Burgess found his way to the Buffalo Bills in 2024 but was placed on the injured reserve and didn't see the field. Burgess was released one week after being placed on IR.

Burgess joined the New Orleans Saints in 2025, where he spent his final season with the franchise alongside Alontae Taylor. He recorded 22 total tackles, one interception, and three passes defended.

He is now reunited with his former teammate at the Titans.

With the addition of Burgess, the Titans now have four safeties on the 53-man roster. It looks like it's going to be Amani Hooker, Kevin Winston Jr., Tony Adams and Burgess at safety for the time being.

There shouldn't be any legitimate chance that Burgess can challenge for a starting spot unless either Hooker or Winston goes down with an injury.

Leading up to 2026, Burgess has played in 59 games with five starts since joining the league in 2020.

At best, he's going to be a depth piece for the Titans when either Hooker or Winston comes off the field.

This most likely won't be the last addition the Titans make to their 53-man roster. There are still roster holes to be filled ahead of Robert Saleh's regular-season debut.
