The Tennessee Titans were able to avoid significant injuries until Sunday.
The Titans faced the New York Giants on the road in Week 3. The Giants deferred and kicked the ball to the Titans.
The special teams issues continued from Week 1.
Chimere Dike fielded the opening kickoff and dove for more yards at the end of his return, fumbling the football away to the Giants.
Luckily, the defense got a stop, and the Giants didn't get any points out of it.
It wasn't too long into the Titans' first drive that things started to go wrong. On one of the first plays of the drive, Fernando Carmona went down with an injury.
It would later be revealed that Carmona had sustained an ankle injury. He would later be ruled out of the game after initially being questionable to return.
Carmona initially appeared on the injury report with a shoulder injury leading up to the game and left with an ankle injury that didn't look very good.
On Monday, we got an idea of how long he could be out from NFL Analyst Jordan Schultz. Schultz reported that Carmona is expected to be out for a few weeks.
The timing of this injury is unfortunate because Carmona was a fun story to watch in the offseason.
He was selected in the fifth round out of Arkansas in the 2026 NFL Draft. There really wasn't an expectation that he would compete for a starting role as a rookie.
The Titans brought in veteran Cordell Volson, who had started 48 games in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals heading into this year. Volson was expected to win the right guard job and was even listed as the starter heading into the team's first preseason game.
However, the shoulder injury he sustained in last year's preseason was still lingering. Volson was trying to work his way back from the injury, and it became clear that he wasn't at 100%.
Carmona was a nice preseason surprise, getting the start in the first game. After a solid performance, he didn't let go of the right-guard job and impressed the coaching staff.
The Titans made it clear what they thought of Carmona after deciding to release Volson. Luckily, Volson was on a one-year contract, so saying goodbye to him wasn't too bad financially.
Now, the Titans are going to be in a rough spot on the interior of the offensive line for a few weeks. Jackson Slater came in, but he's definitely not as experienced as you'd like him to be.
