With the Titans mired in a winless start, draft analysts project Tennessee utilizing a top-three pick to secure Ohio State’s elite playmaker as a franchise-altering offensive weapon.
As it stands, the Tennessee Titans would have a very high pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
If the season had ended before Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, the Titans would have the No. 2 pick in next year's draft.
The Titans are one of four teams without a win in the NFL right now. The Titans, Texans, Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins are all 0-4. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were also until they beat the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football.
Since all those teams have the same record, the draft order is determined by their strength of schedule. The Texans have had the worst strength of schedule in that group, so they currently have the No. 1 pick.
The Chargers are third and Dolphins have the fourth-worst strength of schedule of those teams.
Even though we are only four games into the 2026 season, 2027 NFL Mock Drafts are already being made. One of the latest versions was from Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice on Thursday.
He kept the same draft order for the most part, with one key change. He had the Texans trade away the No. 1 overall pick to the New York Jets.
With an aging Geno Smith as their starting quarterback, he believed they would be looking for a more permanent option under center. Even with Cade Klubnik on the roster, Tice had the Jets drafting Texas QB Arch Manning.
In his mock draft, he had the Texans trading down to the No. 6 overall pick and taking LSU offensive tackle Jordan Seaton.
It's hard to pick one need for the Titans because they are clearly still rebuilding and have a lot. Assuming Cam Ward keeps improving, they have a quarterback in place, and the offensive line is serviceable under Carmen Bricillo.
They may need upgrades on defense or at skill positions like running back and receiver.
Tice had the Titans picking a highly discussed player in college football. With the No. 2 overall pick, the Titans selected Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith.
Why have one Ohio State WR on your team when you can have two?
There's a reason Tate wasn't the No. 1 WR at Ohio State in college. It's because of Smith.
This move would make sense for the Titans. Calvin Ridley isn't the same player he used to be, and the team will likely move on from him before or after his contract expires in 2028.
Smith would be a great replacement for Ridley, giving Ward a much younger, less expensive receiver to throw to.
Smith has led college football in receiving yards for the last two years. He's on pace to do it again in 2026.
If the Titans can get him in next year's draft, they need to take him. General Manager Mike Borgonzi stuck to his plan to take the best player available at No. 4 overall in April, and it's starting to pay off with Tate.
There's no guarantee the Titans will be in this position. It's still very early, and they can absolutely turn things around after this 0-4 start.
However, if things don't turn around and we're right back where we were next April, Smith should be the easy pick if the Titans have the chance.
