The Diggs dream is probably over, but for good reason.
It's now free agent season again in the National Football League as the draft has come to a close. We're now into the bad idea phase of free agency where the players who haven't signed yet carry inherent risk.
The risk with many of the remaining players comes with quality players who are asking for more expensive contracts and others who are free agents for a reason.
Former Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs is generating some Minnesota buzz as he continues to go unsigned in free agency. Diggs is a good enough football player to consider adding, but there is some question as to whether or not the Vikings can afford to add him. Though more recently, the WR depth chart has changed.
Benedetto Vitale of Clutch Points discussed the possibility that the Vikings could add Stefan Diggs to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison at wide receiver. Here's what Vitale shared on that topic.
"Diggs, who is 32 years old, initially played for the Vikings for the first five seasons of his career. He had a breakout year in the 2018-19 campaign, where he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time and hauled in nine touchdowns, which is the third most he's ever totaled in a single season.
The four-time Pro Bowler is well remembered in Minnesota for making a 61-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Case Keenum as time expired to defeat the New Orleans Saints 29-24 in the 2018 NFC Divisional round of the playoffs. He is now an 11-year veteran searching for a new team to call home after playing for the New England Patriots last season.
Although a reunion with the Vikings sounds great, he has been a bit of a controversial player over the past few seasons. However, Stefon Diggs was recently found not guilty on all counts in a lawsuit alleging he was in a physical altercation with his personal chef over her pay."

Jeffrey Becker-Imagn ImagesHowever, now that the Vikings have signed Jauan Jennings, it’s likely a moot point. Unless Diggs just enjoys playing in Minnesota and would sign for cheap as an insurance depth WR.
The fit probably was not the concern for Minnesota who would have welcomed adding an impact player at wideout alongside Jefferson and Addison. Diggs would have to accept a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver role now, with perhaps the league's best pass catcher in Jefferson firmly cemented in the No. 1 spot and Jordan Addison the likely No. 2 option. With that would come less targets for Diggs.
If Diggs were to agree to this backup role, the Vikings could have one of the more dangerous offenses in the league with the addition of Kyler Murray at quarterback. We'll monitor whether or not the Vikings make it happen, though it’s very unlikely with the Jennings signing.
