The Minnesota Vikings have signed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to add more to the wide receiver room.
The Minnesota Vikings have had some struggles on the offensive side, and with that said, the Vikings decided to make a change as they have signed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the practice squad, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
This is a very interesting development especially because wide receiver Justin Jefferson has missed time, so it does seem that the Vikings believe they do need some help at receiver and that Beckham could be that help.
Additionally, it is important to note that there is a connection between Beckham and head coach Kevin O'Connell as both were with the Los Angeles Rams during the Super Bowl run during the 2021-2022 season in Los Angeles so that gives some familiarity between Beckham and O'Connell.
Now, Beckham is one the practice squad, but it is very likely that he will be elevated for the game on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints as the Vikings need to be more productive on the offensive side, and it is possible that Beckham could provide that.
Throughout the week, it will be very important to monitor the status of Jefferson as well and whether or not he will be able to play as the Vikings take on the Saints in Week 5.
If Jefferson plays, that could change the role for Beckham and how he contributes in the wide receiver room for quarterback Kyler Murray, but at this point, there is no clear answer about Jefferson's availability for Sunday.
Other than Jefferson, the main contributors for Minnesota in the passing game are wide receiver Jordan Addison, tight end T.J. Hockenson, and running back Aaron Jones Sr., who all have been solid options for Murray.
Last week, Hockenson really stepped up with an impressive game, but the Vikings do need more from the wide receiver position, as Jefferson is out and fellow wide receiver Juan Jennings has essentially been a non-factor in the first four weeks.
Standing at 5-11 and 198 pounds, Beckham has decent which allows him to play in the slot and if he needed he flex out to the outside, which could be very beneficial for the Vikings if he can prove the ability to consistently win one-on-one opportunities and give Murray easy throws.
Through the first four weeks of the season, this passing game has really struggled to get going, but with Beckham coming in it is very possible that he could be the missing link and potentially put this offense in a position to move the ball more effectively and be more efficient in the red zone.
So, as the week progresses, it will be interesting to monitor the status of Jefferson and how Beckham adjusts to the Vikings' system with O'Connell, because if he adjusts well and Jefferson can return, this team could really benefit and possibly get into the rhythm they need to on the offensive side.
