Russell Wilson was Sean Payton's quarterback in Denver for just one season back in 2023, and it didn't work out very well. They lost five or their first six games and failed to make the playoffs.

Payton wanted to move on so badly from Wilson that the Broncos took an $85 million cap hit to get rid of him. He played in Pittsburgh last year and wound up with the New York Giants this season. He started three games — all losses — and was replaced by highly-touted rookie Jaxson Dart, a first-round pick out of Ole Miss.

Payton's Broncos played the Giants on Sunday, and the coach told Giants owner John Mara that he had hoped they would have waited until after their game to start Dart, an obvious shot at Wilson.

The 36-year-old quarterback heard about it, and fired back at Payton. It was quite the zinger. Here's the full story on Wilson's comeback from Broncos Roundtable reporter Bob McCullough.

When the Broncos moved on from Wilson, they drafted Bo Nix out of Oregon in the 2024 NFL Draft. He's been very good so far, going 10-7 and making the playoffs as a rookie, and he's 5-2 so far this season, leading the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers by one game.

Wilson has watched Dart go 2-2 since he took over, and the chances of him playing anymore with the Giants seem very remote.
