The Philadelphia Phillies signed slugger Kyle Schwarber through 2029, signing the designated hitter to a five-year, $150 million contract. This massive deal signals their unwavering commitment to winning now and chasing that elusive World Series. They made the playoffs all four years with Schwarber.

Roundtable Sports Editor-in-Chief Tom Brew talks about the Kyle Schwarber signing.

Ever since Kyle Schwarber showed up in Philadelphia four years ago, all he's done is smack 187 home runs and lead the Phillies to the playoffs four years in a row. They haven't won that elusive World Series title yet, but they've come close, increasing their win total every year.

They want to keep that World Series window open, too, and they went a long way in doing that on Tuesday, signing Schwarber, who was a free-agent, to a huge five-year, $150 million contract.

Here's the story from Phillies Roundtable publisher Evan Massey.

Schwarber has played in the big-leagues for 11 years. He was the fourth-overall pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 2014 MLB Draft after a great college career at Indiana. He was in the major leagues a year later, and won a World Series with the Cubs in 2016.

The Middletown, Ohio native signed a four-year, $79 million contract with the Phillies in 2022, and he far exceeded that deal. He was one of the prime targets in the 2025 free agency window, so this is a huge get for Philadelphia, keeping him home.

His manager, Rob Thomson, will be around for a while longer, too. The Phillies announced Tuesday that he's signed and extension through the 2027 season. Thomson took over in 2022.

Schwarber is going to play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic this spring.
