Today, the number 1 Saddle Bronc Rider and All Around Cowboy in the World announced to his fans that he will be spending some time on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.
There is no one more followed in rodeo then the amazing Stetson Wright. For the first time all season, Wright won't be loading up for the next rodeo.
The 10 time PRCA World Champion announced Tuesday that he successfully underwent surgery to repair multiple injuries suffered during a difficult stretch leading up to and including the Calgary Stampede.
The news came as a surprise to many rodeo fans. While spectators witnessed several hard get-offs in recent weeks, including one during the Calgary Stampede Showdown Sunday, few realized the extent of the damage Wright had been competing through.
In a post shared on social media, Wright revealed he suffered a separated shoulder along with a torn meniscus and PCL in his knee.
"For everyone asking about my schedule, I won't have one for a little while," Wright wrote. "I had a tough few weeks (get offs) leading up to Calgary, followed by the championship round in Calgary. Unfortunately, I got bucked off and separated my shoulder. I tore my meniscus and PCL in my knee."
Wright added that surgery was successful and credited Dr. Delcore for the procedure before reassuring fans that he expects to return soon.
"Thankfully, surgery went well yesterday thanks to Dr. Delcore's expertise. I'll be back to riding in no time. I'm excited about the time God gave me off to spend with my tiny tornado (Kingsley) & my family. I'll be back in a flash!"
The timing is significant. Wright enters the break with more than $300,000 won already this season while leading the PRCA All-Around World Standings by a comfortable margin. He also sits No. 1 in the saddle bronc riding and No. 3 in the bull riding, once again proving why he is known as rodeo's "Superman."
His absence comes during the heart of the summer run, where some of the richest rodeos of the season remain on the schedule. Even so, Wright has built enough through the first half of 2026 that his name will remain firmly in the conversation for multiple world championships.
The injury also comes just one year after another remarkable comeback. Following significant injuries that sidelined him during the 2023 NFR and 2024 season, Wright returned in 2025 looking every bit like the "Superman" rodeo fans had come to expect. That resilience has become one of the defining characteristics of his career, and there is little reason to believe this setback will change that.
Some have described Stetson as the Tom Brady of rodeo. This year was the year fans were expecting Stetson to have a real chance at that Triple Crown he has been working towards. To win all three World Championships in the same year is still very much a possibility after he heals up in 2026.
Instead of focusing on the road ahead, Wright says he's choosing to focus on something else for now, time at home with his daughter, Kingsley, and his family.
How long he'll be sidelined remains unknown. History has shown us that betting against Stetson Wright rarely is a winning strategy. His 2026 season may be on a short pause, but he will be back in winning shape before long.
