A string of big checks in his home state has pushed Haven Meged to fourth in the world as the eight-time NFR qualifier chases another trip to Las Vegas as well as another Montana Circuit title championship.
Haven Meged knows Montana very well. The Miles City cowboy grew up there, still claims the Montana Circuit, and every summer gets a chance to make his home state work for him. This week, he did exactly that. Haven took a trip north to Montana to make the most of a week of rodeos that not only will help him in the Montana Circuit standings but also in the PRCA World Standings, where he sits at number 4.
Although rodeo fans have known Haven as a calf roper, he collected checks in both the tie-down roping and team roping while in Montana actually.
Meged now has more than $170,000 won in 2026, putting himself well into the conversation for another gold buckle. That is familiar territory for Meged. He is already an eight-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier and is chasing his second PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Championship.
His first came in one of the most impressive introductions to professional rodeo possible. Meged won the world title at his first NFR and also captured Rookie of the Year honors in the same season.
Meged's Montana run included a big weekend in Cascade. He won the tie-down roping with an 8.7-second run and also placed fourth in the team roping, heading for Arye Espenscheid in 5.3 seconds. The combination of those two checks earned him the all-around win as well.
He kept it rolling in Missoula. Meged headed for Zane Schroeder and placed in the team roping. He also placed third in the tie-down roping with a 9.1. In Chinook, another 9.1 put Meged second in the tie-down roping.
In Bozeman, Meged was wicked fast, stopping the clock in 6.6 seconds to win the tie-down roping and collect more than $4,000, his biggest check of the week.
His week stretched a bit outside of Montana too. Meged added a third place finish in Logan, Utah, with an 8.0-second run. The money has added up quickly. Haven was the third high money earner over the week in the calf roping. Shane Hanchey and Trevor Hale just barely won more over the week stretch.
Although there is still a sizable gap to close on world leader Riley Webb, who has built a lead of more than $100,000, that doesn't make Meged's position any less important. He has spent this year putting himself in position for another trip to Las Vegas, and there is still plenty of money left to be won before the regular season ends. Of course, once they are in Vegas, with rounds paying nearly $40,000, Haven has a very good chance.
Meged lives in Stephenville, Texas, with his wife, six-time NFBR qualifier and World Champion breakaway roper Shelby Meged, and their new baby boy, Wydler. But Montana is still home in a lot of ways. Miles City is where he grew up, and the circuit gives him the chance to come back and rodeo in front of people who have watched his career from the very beginning.
This week, he didn't just come home and circuit rodeo though, he cashed in and helped himself gain ground in the World Standings too.
Now, sitting fourth in the world, the eight-time NFR qualifier has another familiar goal in front of him, a trip to Las Vegas and a second World Championship.
