The breakaway roping continues to grow and expand. Run For the Million and Premier Womens Rodeo just announced another new event in 2026 for the ladies with a rope.
On March 31 there was a big announcement for breakaway ropers. As the event continues to grow and expand, more and more opportunities have arose. A big part of that growth includes the Premier Womens Rodeo (PWR).
The Run For the Million is the richest event of reining and the most exciting and thrilling new event in cow horse and cutting! They partnered with PWR to bring a new opportunity to the girls this year.
In Las Vegas this August, there will be a new $50,000 Breakaway Showcase, expanding even more. Only 20 ladies will be invited to compete at the Showcase, but there is still time to qualify.
These 20 ladies will be selected through invites and qualifications at the PWR Championship Last Chance Qualifier and the PWR Championship. The invited athletes include: the 2026 PWR World Champion Pro, the 2026 PWR World Champion Challenger, the 2026 PWR World Champion Limited, and the 2026 PWR Championship Event Champion. These World Titles will be given out at the Premier Womens Rodeo Championship this May.
The 2025 WPRA World Champion, Taylor Munsell will also be invited.
There is still time to qualify as well, as the 2027 season will begin after the finals in May. Whoever sits #1 in the Pro, Challenger, and Limited PWR 2027 Leaderboards as of June 14th will also get the invite.
This makes up 20 ladies roping for that $50,000. This is just one more opportunity for girls of all levels and backgrounds to rope for big money, at a great venue, against the best of the best.
Cheryl Cody, Run For the Million general manager spoke with Sami Jo Smith and Lindsey Sumpter with PWR about this addition.
"The response has been just through the roof already. We have a really unique audience for that show. They are so excited. Everyone across the board is so excited. We have been really kind of blown away by the response we have gotten," Cody said.
The Run For the Million event in August that the breakaway roping will be added to is an outstanding equine event featuring a $1 million purse. It is the Million Dollar Reining Challenge. The audience that Cheryl Cody talks about is so unique because they come from all walks of life. Some of the audience have a horse show background, some may have a little bit of that rodeo and western lifestyle background. Meanwhile, others watching the Run For the Million are fans through TV and the screen, and join the crowds to watch live and in person for the very first time.
Cody continued, "Taylor Sheridan called me last night and said, ya know, wow people are excited about this breakaway."
This is another great expansion of breakaway roping, and this time it will come together with one of the biggest events in the Western Industry.
