Tough Draw athlete Dustin Egusquiza is chasing his 9th NFR qualification in 2026 while also nearing the 2 million dollar career earnings mark.

As the 2026 rodeo season continues to take shape, athletes across the Tough Draw Sports roster are once again making their presence felt across the country.

From rising competitors to seasoned veterans, the early part of the season has reflected the depth, experience, and consistency that define this group of athletes.

Among them is one of the most accomplished team ropers in the sport—Dustin Egusquiza, currently sitting No. 4 in the PRCA World Standings as a team roping header.

Originally from Florida and now based in Texas, Egusquiza has built a career defined by precision, speed, and consistency at the highest level.

As an eight-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, he has spent years competing among the best in the world, establishing himself as one of the most reliable and respected headers in the game.

With career earnings approaching the $2 million mark, Egusquiza continues to push forward, relying not just on his reputation, but on consistent, quality performance.

A Legacy Built on Family and Competition

Team roping has always been rooted in tradition, and for Egusquiza, that foundation runs deep.

Now partnered with his brother-in-law JC Flake, the 2026 season marks the beginning of a new chapter, built on both family connection and competitive drive.

The results have already made an impression.

Earlier this season, Egusquiza and Flake recorded a 2.9-second run at Rodeo Austin, setting a new world record in their sport and reinforcing Egusquiza’s reputation as one of the fastest headers in the game.

For a competitor known for consistency, Egusquiza’s ability to still push the edge of speed speaks to both experience and continued evolution.

"The times were all really fast, but we got a leg on the first one,” Eguisquiza explained. “We just were trying to go as fast as we could on the second round. I think there were four or five 3.5's that were splitting first. We actually drew the one steer that I didn't really want. He was pretty fast, he went left, and didn't hop good.”

Egusquiza and Flake accomplished that goal of "just go fast," even on a steer that they didn't want. 2.9 seconds later, they were the round winners and new world record holders.

"It just worked out perfect,” Eguisquiza shared. “I didn't have to score a bunch because the steer was fast. I got a great start, and JC heeled him so fast. It just came together really good. I knew it was extremely fast, and when I turned around to look at the clock, it was pretty crazy to see it stop on 2.9."

Still Climbing

Even with years of success behind him, Egusquiza’s focus remains firmly on what’s ahead.

With a strong start to the 2026 season, his sights are set on another return to Las Vegas and a continued presence at the top of the standings.

At the same time, the opportunity to cross the $2 million career earnings mark could add another milestone to an already accomplished career in 2026.

But for Egusquiza, the approach remains the same: consistency, preparation, and execution.

We asked Egusquiza about his goals for 2026, and the plan with JC Flake on the heels.

"Making the NFR and winning the world is at the top of our list for 2026,” Eguisquiza revealed. “We had a decent year last year. JC and I didn't start roping together til dang near mid season, but we won a decent, amount.”

Egusquiza and Flake teamed up last year half way through. Dustin ended up making the finals, but JC was on the outside looking in. This year though, they got started strong from the beginning and are looking to make that Vegas trip together come December.

"We'd like to show up to Reno with $50,000 to $60,000 won,” Eguisquiza continued. “That was the goal when we started. It’s a better feeling to show up to Reno with some money already won.”

A Part of Tough Draw Sports

Egusquiza has been working alongside Tough Draw Sports over the past several years, becoming a trusted and respected presence within the roster.

As a veteran competitor, he brings more than results. He brings the perspective that can only come from years of experience.

His experience, professionalism, and willingness to engage have made him an important part of the culture that continues to shape Tough Draw Sports.

“Dustin is the kind of athlete you build around,” said Brad Hughes, Tough Draw Sports founder. “He’s proven at the highest level, but more importantly, he understands the bigger picture of the sport—how to compete, how to carry himself, and how to represent the Western way of life the right way.”

That alignment reflects what Tough Draw Sports is built on: relationships, trust, and a shared commitment to the long-term growth of the athletes and the sport.

“I was first connected with Brad through a mutual friend from back home,” Egusquiza said of his relationship with Tough Draw Sports. “We stayed in contact, and the Tough Draw Sports team has helped me out a lot. They're great people, and I'm glad to have them on my team.”

Looking Ahead

As the 2026 season continues, Egusquiza remains exactly where he has been throughout his career: in the mix.

With a new partnership, strong early momentum, and years of experience behind him, the path forward is clear.

“We’re just going rodeo by rodeo,” Egusquiza said. “Team roping is so fast now. I don't feel like I am very old, but my first year was 2016, and since then, it has just gotten much tougher in the team roping. You can show up to the first perf and be 4.0 and not even be sure you'll get a check."

For Egusquiza, the story isn’t defined by what he’s already accomplished. It’s defined by what’s still ahead.

Even with eight trips to the National Finals, Egusquiza still has the biggest feat on his mind, a gold buckle with his name etched on it.

"I haven't achieved my main goal of winning the world yet,” Egusquiza revealed. “Hopefully that comes one day, but other than that, I would like to be remembered as a good guy and somebody that loved what they did."

As one of the fastest and most consistent headers in the sport, there’s little doubt that he will remain right where he’s always been, competing at the highest level, with Las Vegas firmly in sight.
