Argentina 1-0 Switzerland Half Time: Mac Allister Header Gives Argentines Lead
The first half between Argentina and Switzerland has come to a close with the winners now confirmed to face England in the semi final of the 2026 World Cup. The last quarter final of the tournament Heading into the game, Lionel Scaloni's men were always the favourites, despite nervy previous games. However, the Swiss have been known to overcome some of the world's best. The Argentines took an early lead with ten minutes passed. Unsurprisingly, captain Lionel Messi was at the centre of action as he stood over an Argentina corner. The in-swinging delivery met by a superb leap from Alexis Mac Allister flicked on into the far corner opening the scoring and handing his side the lead with his first goal of the tournament. Otherwise, the half was a quiet one from both sides. Solid defending from the South Americans kept the Swiss attack at bay with Murat Yakin's side only managing one shot on target in the first half. Much work to do for Switzerland, with a boost in intensity desperately needed. Meanwhile, Scaloni's men need to stay disciplined as they have so far if they want any chance of keeping the Swiss attacks quiet.

Argentina 0-1 Egypt Half Time Thoughts: Pharaohs Lead After Another Messi Penalty Blunder
The first 45 minutes of the penultimate Round of 16 tie between Argentina and Egypt have concluded. A scrappy first ten minutes saw both sides struggle to get a hold of the game, with misplaced passes rushed decisions seeing little chances created. The scoring was eventually opened by the Egyptians with 15 minutes on the clock. Hossam Hassan's men had a clear game plan, utilising outswinging crosses into the Argentina penalty area. A cross from wide swung in by Marwan Ateya landed on the head of Yasser Ibrahim who escaped from Lisandro Martinez at the back post. His header back across goal nestled in the far corner leaving Emiliano Martinez helpless. The Argentines were desperate to reply, upping the intensity straight away. Their efforts paid off as Nicolas Tagliafico made an overlapping run behind the Egyptian defence into the penalty area, where the tracking back Haissem Hassan's lunging challenge brought down the Lyon fullback. Lionel Messi stepped up to the spot looking to rectify his penalty miss against the Austrians in the group stage, but he was faulted once again. A poor penalty to Mostafa Ahmed Shobeir's left hand side was saved leaving the Argentinian fans stunned. La Albiceleste continued to push as a header from Alexis Mac Allister forced another great save from Shobeir. Shortly followed by Lionel Messi's free kick from over 30 yards out striking the left post. More followed as Tagliafico made another threatening run. He was fond with a brilliant diagonal ball as the fullback's first time cutback landed in the path of Julian Alvarez. His strike drilled low and right forced another magnificent save from Shobeir who somehow got down quick enough. The Argentines have work to do in the second half with the Egyptians looking to match them physically in a game to face either Colombia or Switzerland in the quarter finals.

Argentina 1-0 Cape Verde Half Time Thoughts: Messi At It Again With Another Beautiful Goal
Half time between Argentina and Cape Verde in Miami and a return to the city of his club saw Lionel Messi shine yet again for Argentina as a place in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup against Egypt, after their win on penalties over Australia, hangs in the balance. The first 25 minutes before the hydration break were quiet. As expected, Argentina had the majority of possession but were unable to carve open the Cape Verdean defence to create any clear chances limiting them to only two shots in the first 25 minutes. The Cape Verdeans did have the occasional opportunity to break after winning the ball in potentially threatening positions, but Cubist's men were hesitant to overload the Argentinian half. Any hopes of a fast break were extinguished as the Argentinian defence outnumbered the Cape Verdean forwards. The quiet start was eventually broken as Lisandro Martinez showed his elite quality on the ball firing a lofted pass from the halfway line to none other than Lionel Messi, who calmly, plucked the ball from the air and stabbed his effort beyond Vozinha to open the scoring for the reigning champions. Half an hour on the clock and the South Americans took the lead. That makes it seven goals already this tournament for Messi as the 39-year-old extends his record of all time World Cup top goalscorer with 20 goals. With the second half ahead, La Albiceleste look to be in the driving seat, but the Blue Sharks are still in this game.

Jordan 0-2 Argentina Half Time Thoughts: Lo Celso Freekick Puts Argentina Ahead
With the first half of Jordan's final game of the 2026 World Cup coming to a close, the Arabian side find themselves 2-0 down to reigning world champions Argentina after a strong showing from the much-changed side. Giovanni Lo Celso found the net early on, but his effort was quickly wiped off for offside. It would have been a great start for the man making his first ever World Cup appearance. He still got his moment after a controversial free kick was awarded. Lo Celso stepped up and wrapped his effort to the keeper's side as Yazeed Abulaila moved across, leaving the far post empty. The Argentinian advantage was quickly doubled after Nizar Al Rashdan's swinging boot caught Marcos Senesi in the box, handing Argentina a penalty which Lautaro Martinez calmly converted. Both sides' fates in Group J has already been confirmed. Jordan will look to go out with an impressive second half display, but the quality of a rotated Argentina side has proven to be too much.

Algeria 1-1 Austria Half Time Thoughts: Arnautovic Opener Cancelled Out By Belghali Strike
With both sides only needing a draw to guarantee their qualification to the knockout rounds, Algeria's match against Austria has certainly entertained. It was the 37-year-old veteran Marko Arnautovic who found the back of the net first in Kansas controlling a high ball delicately and poking past Benbot in goal. But relentless Algerian pressure followed with the North African foxes striking the post as Fares Chaibi's effort left Alexander Schlager beaten. It was Hellas Verona's Rafik Belghali who levelled the scoring as the ball fortunately bounced into his path off the Austrian corner flag. The full back cut inside onto his left foot and hooked his effort into the top right corner from close range as the clock entered stoppage time. Top and bottom of Group J already confirmed as Argentina and Jordan, Algeria need a point to progress in third place. The second half will be tense for Les Fennecs and Das Team as a loss could be costly.
